Kris "Kiki" Kizer

Kris “Kiki” Kizer,
57, passed away in her home Monday January 25, 2010 from natural causes.
Kris was born in Wichita, Kansas June 13, 1952 and graduated from
Lubbock High School in 1970. Kris was the daughter of Nat and Casey Kizer, who preceded her in death. Kris loved her family very much and
is survived by her sister Karla Wardroup and Karla’s husband Rick and
step-son John, her nephew Jason Bigham his wife Carolyn and children
Hannah, Price, and Andrew, her nephew Jeffrey Bigham his wife Whitney
and son Jack, and her niece Taylor Sondergaard and her husband Sean.
Outside of her love for family Kris had three primary passions:
medicine, her sobriety, and her animals. Kris worked as a surgical
technician in Lubbock for ten years and loved her work dearly,
unfortunately, she had to give up her profession early on account of
a disability caused by a birth defect in her hips. But not working
only increased her dedication to her sobriety and animals. By the
grace of God Kris had her last drink on December 14, 1985 and remained sober
until the day she died. She drew strength and love from fellow
alcoholics and was an inspiration to many people to walk away from
their disease and into the love of God.
There was nothing that Kris loved more than her animals. She
regularly sacrificed herself to aid cats, dogs, possum, birds, and
any other creature that needed love and a safe place to be. In
return, the animals provided her with company and a purpose that
allowed her to continue her career in the care of others.
Kris was a great soul who was given a very frail vessel. She was
limited in what she could do, but what she could do, she did do. She
did love her family and tell them often of her affection and pride.
She did love people and helped to heal many in body and spirit. She
did love animals and nursed and cared for hundreds in her lifetime.
She also did love God and has gone to be part of his invincible body
forever.
A graveside service will be held for Kris at 2:00pm on Saturday,
January 30, 2010, at Resthaven Memorial Park. The family will be receiving
visitors on Friday night, and following the ceremony on Saturday, at
the home of Karla and Rick Wardroup. In lieu of flowers please send a
donation to Haven Animal Care Shelter, 4501 N FM 1729 Lubbock, TX
79403 (www.havenacs.org).
