Cindy Sheakley Lucas

Cindy Ann Sheakley Lucas of Lubbock was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on
July 20, 1957 and grew up in Algona, Iowa. She went to the University
of Iowa and graduated in Special Education. She moved to Lubbock, Texas
in 1984 and began working for Lubbock Regional MHMR Center and continued
in various positions there over her 25 years of service, the most recent
being Chief Administration Officer for the center. Cindy received a
Master’s degree in Public Administration from Texas Tech University in
1991. In addition to her work at MHMR Cindy was one of the original
Iowa Girls and opened a shop on 34th street called Those Iowa
Girls Antiques in 2004. She was a member of the First United Methodist
Church of Lubbock.
Cindy is survived by
her parents, Charles and Chloe Sheakley of Algona, Iowa; sister, Kristi
Sheakley of Des Moines, Iowa; brother, Ed Sheakley and daughter,
Stephanie of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; brother, Cliff and wife Laurie
Sheakley and son, Gavin of Clear Lake, Iowa along with sons, Lucas Honn
and Brett and wife Jenni Honn and son, Noah of Mason City, Iowa; sister,
Clare and husband Steve Bunnell of Flower Mound, Texas; and sister,
Shari Sheakley and son, Justin of Phoenix, Arizona. Cindy is also
survived by her step-sons, Christopher and Scott Saunders of Lubbock.
Cindy wishes in lieu
of flowers that memorials be sent in her name to Lubbock Regional MHMR
Center, PO Box 2828, Lubbock, Texas, 79408. Her wish was for a “Grandma
C. Garden of Peace” at the center’s new PACE program.
Memorial services
will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday January 18, 2010 at the New Life Center
at First United Methodist Church of Lubbock. Arrangements are under the
direction of Sanders Funeral Home.
