Elouise ‘Cookie”
Sukenis, lovingly known as Granny Girl by her family, passed into the
Lord’s arms on Saturday, January 16, 2010, in Lubbock, TX, at the age of
88. The family will be receiving friends at Sanders Funeral Home from
7:00-8:00 p.m., Monday. Services will be Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at
10:00 a.m. at Sanders Funeral Home.
Burial will be
under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home in Hartshorne, OK with
a visitation Wednesday from 7:00-8:00 p.m. and the graveside services at
2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 21, 2010 in Elmwood Cemetery in Hartshorne,
OK.
Cookie was born
November 21, 1921 in Pittsburgh County, OK to Leo and Florence
(Wilkerson) Marchman. Upon her Mother’s death when Cookie was 13, she
became a mother figure to her two brothers and sister. She watched over
them with a fierce determination and ironwill which characterized the
rest of her life.
She married George
Sukenis on May 16, 1942 in Quinton, OK. Their daughter, Jerry Belle,
was born in McAlister OK. They moved to Carlsbad, NM in 1953 and to
Lubbock, TX in 1988 to be near their daughter and family.
Cookie was
preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, A.J. and Thelbert
Marchman and one sister, Jerry Stuckey; her husband of 51 years, George;
son-in-law, Johnny Huskey and a great grandson, Corey Huskey. She is
survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jerry Belle and Jack Edwards,
one grandson and wife, Jamey and Joan Huskey; one great grandson, Austin
Huskey; extended family, Vicki Huskey Witt and sons; a special nephew,
Dalvin Sukenis.

loved Granny Girl as one of their own.
