Ann Watkins

Ann Smith Watkins, 83, of Lubbock went to her heavenly home on January
16, 2010. Memorial services are pending.
Ann was born on
January 11, 1927 in Winters, TX to C.O. and Beulah Smith. She graduated
high school in Corpus Christi, TX then moved to Vega, TX. She married
John E. Watkins on January 12, 1945 and lived in Vega most of her
married life. She also lived in Amarillo and most recently in Lubbock to
be near family.
She is survived by
her most precious treasures on earth, her three grandchildren, Justin
and Alex Watkins of Lubbock and Laci Watkins of New York City. She is
also survived by her son, Stan Watkins; daughter-in-law and caregiver,
Brenda Watkins, both of Lubbock; several nieces and nephews; and many
friends including her life-long friend, Rowena Looney of Amarillo.
She was preceded
in death by her parents; her husband; an infant daughter, Lou Ann; twin
grandson, Eric; and all five of her siblings, Ray Chick, and Charles
Smith, Flavia Wheeler, and Stella Trull.
Ann loved the Lord
with all her heart, and with all her soul, and with all her mind. She
was a member of First Baptist Church Vega and served as a Sunday school
teacher and Girl’s in Action leader for many years. She also counted it
a blessing to be the church nursery worker loving and spoiling all the
children in her care.
Ann held many jobs
over the years, including owner of Vega Mercantile. She also was an
accomplished artist. Many, many families have pieces of art hand crafted
by Ann. She had a passion for creating beautiful art out of most
anything including wood, aluminum, paper, canvas and paints, and
anything else she could get her hands on.
We will miss you
and forever love you, Me-Ma. Rest in the Lord. You have fought the good
fight, you have finished the course, you have kept the faith.
At Ann’s request
please make memorial donations to help feed the children through City
Church Outreach Ministry, 205 S Polk St, Amarillo, TX.
