Dwayne York
Dwayne A. York, 57, of Lubbock went to be
with his Lord on Thursday, July 22, 2010 in Lubbock. Funeral services
will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Indiana Baptist Church Sanctuary
with Pastor Steve McMeans officiating and a special word from Pastor
Vester Thompson. He will be laid to rest at Peaceful Gardens Cemetery
in Lubbock. Family visitation will be held on Tuesday from 6:00 to 7:00
p.m. at Sanders Funeral Home. Dwayne was born in Haskell, Texas on June
9th, 1953 to the late George and Willie York.
He
began a 36 year career with the United States Postal Service in Lubbock
as a postal assistant, carrier and then promoted to supervisor and
station manager in several locations. He served as Postmaster of Pecos,
Fort Stockton and Orange, Texas. He received several awards and
accommodations while with the postal service.
Dwayne married the love of his life, Judy in 1997. Dwayne was devoted
to his family and some of his hobbies were hunting, boating, fishing,
bowling, woodworking and rooting for the Dallas Cowboys. Dwayne enjoyed
building frames and stretching canvas for Judy’s paintings. He was a
Gideon, and member of Indiana Baptist Church and former dedicated member
of North Orange Baptist Church.
Our
beloved “Yorkie” was a gift from God and his life was a gift as well.
He was born with Tetralogy of Fallot (blue baby syndrome) and was born
with little chance of survival. He was the third open heart patient at
age eight in the United States.
Left
to carry on Dwayne’s legacy are his wife and best friend Judy, his son
Lee York and wife Veronica, daughter Billie Michelle York, son James
Mayfield, and daughter Monica Loya and husband Michael, sister Karen
Neal and husband Jimmie, nephew, Chris Neal, grandchildren Madelyn and
Lilyann York, Hannah and Emilie Mayfield, Justice and Jenna Loya,
uncles, W.H. York, Cliff Switzer and aunt Manon Mitchell.
He
was special to many and was a gentle giant, a loving father and husband,
grandfather, brother, uncle and friend for life.
