Orlena
Carolyn Jacobus
Orlena Carolyn Jacobus, 95, of Lubbock went to be
with her Lord and Savior on June 29, 2010. Carolyn was born in Houston,
MS on September 15, 1914 to Charles and Elise Harrington. Her family
moved to Tulsa, OK in 1930. She graduated from Central High School
there and then attended the University of Tulsa. For many years she
worked at Collins-Deitz-Morris Wholesale Grocery Co. in Tulsa, OK. On
August 2, 1936, she married Cloise James Jacobus, who preceded her in
death on June 11, 1984. In the early 1950’s Cloise (or Jake as he was
known to many) began receiving a series of promotions with his employer,
International Harvester Co., and the family made a series of moves to
Shawnee, OK, Odessa, TX, and finally to Lubbock, TX in 1954. She and
Cloise had four children by this time. She was a very active member of
the First Baptist Church of Lubbock, working as lead teacher with 4 and
5 year old children for almost 40 years, in addition to being very
active in the Women’s Missionary Union. She and Cloise traveled many
places after he retired until his death. Since his death she has
concentrated on being a wonderful well-loved mother and grandmother and
serving her church and helping friends as they needed her. She loved
being surrounded by her family. For the last 2-1/2 years, she has
resided at Grace House of Lubbock.
In addition to
her husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Charles C.
Harrington and William A. Harrington; and a sister, Adele Seckler all of
Tulsa, OK. She is survived by sisters, Dorothy Mason of Duncan, OK, and
Elise Woolsey and husband Don of Tulsa, OK. She is survived by her
children, Carolyn J. Eldredge and husband Bill of Grandbury, TX, Cloise
James Jacobus, Jr. (Jimmy) and wife Mary Lu of Lubbock, TX, Mary E.
Herbert and husband James of San Angelo, TX, and Kathy S. White and
husband Bob of Lubbock, TX; grandchildren, Valerie Nulisch and husband
Kyle of Sunnyvale, TX, Melanie Kirk and husband Brad of Heath, TX,
Kenneth Eldredge and wife Lisa of Keller, TX, Susan Bunce and husband
Brian of Marion, TX, Jay Jacobus and wife Jill of Lubbock, TX, Shane
Jacobus and wife Erin of Waco, TX, Brad Herbert and wife Meredith of San
Angelo, TX, Jennifer Stewart and husband Nathan of Boston, MA, Kristin
Herbert of Denver, CO, Michael Herbert of Cleveland, OH, and Molly
Martinez and husband Joseph of Lubbock, TX. She is also survived by
sixteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Family
visitation will be held on Thursday, July 1, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
at Sanders Funeral Home, 1420 Main St. Lubbock, TX. Funeral services
will be held at Sanders Funeral Home Memorial Chapel on Friday, July 2,
2010 at 2:00 p.m. followed by interment at Resthaven Memorial Park. The
Rev. John H. Ballard will officiate.
