Aileen Gilliland Dunn

Aileen passed away peacefully, August 4, 2012 in Frisco, Texas. Her last days were spent praising God and telling everyone how much she loved them. Everyone who came into her room was greeted by praises to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She never forgot to thank others for their help, and say “I love you.” Aileen was born in Floyd County Texas August 31, 1922, the ninth child of Samuel Francis and Hattie Mae Gilliland. She is proceeded in death by her parents, sisters Eddie Mae Bradshaw, Pauline Gilliland, Inez Spence, and Gladys Morris: brothers Clyde, Herman, Travis, and Arnold Gilliland; her husband of 67 years, Lester Burl Dunn, and grandson Forest Arturo Dunn. She is survived by her daughter Cynthia Ann Skinner and husband Robert of Frisco, Texas, son Larry Burl Dunn and wife Rosemary Bolza of Fencelake New Mexico, grandsons Chris Skinner and wife Stephanie of Round Rock, Texas, and Jon Skinner of Frisco, Texas; granddaughters, Hannah Dunn of Flagstaff, Arizona, Sara Dunn and Kim Goulter of Boston, Massachusetts, great granddaughters Emily Cook of Little Elm, Texas and Tera Rose Skinner of Dallas, Texas and 22 nieces and nephews. Her family moved from Floyd County to Amherst, Texas when she was in high school. Her first Sunday at Rocky Ford Baptist Church she met Lester Dunn. He claimed it was love at first sight. After their first year of marriage, they moved to Amarillo. While Lester served in WWII, Aileen went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. After several years as an operator, she became a business service representative. She retired in 1982 after 30 years of service when she and her husband moved to Lubbock, Texas. Aileen was the consummate volunteer, serving The Lord as a Sunday school teacher, vacation bible school leader, and any position that needed help. Since retirement she has volunteered at the South Plains Food Bank and VA outpatient clinic in Lubbock and the VA Hospital in Amarillo. As a member and past Commander of Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, she has participated in many charity events and fundraisers. She was a member of First Baptist Church. Visitation will be Friday evening, August 10, 2012 from 6:00-7:30 pm at Sanders Funeral Home. Funeral Services are Saturday August 11, 2012 at 10:00 am at Sander Memorial Chapel, 1420 Main Street, Downtown Lubbock, Texas 79401.
