Albert Sitzer

Albert Sitzer Services for Albert Sitzer, 89, of Lubbock will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 29, 2012, at Congregation Shaareth Israel, 6928-83rd Street. Interment will follow at the City of Lubbock Cemetery under the care of Sanders Funeral Home. He died on October 26, 2012 at his home. Albert was born May 12, 1923 in New York City, NY to Morris and Rose Zitzer. He married Ruth Abraham of Alexandria, VA on March 3, 1946. During World War II, he was with the U.S. Army Air Forces and served as a Flight Engineer/Gunner, 5th Air Force. Following the war years, he attended the Columbia Art Institute, Washington, D.C. Graphic Art and Documentary Film Production was his lifetime profession. He was Deputy Chief, Graphic Arts Branch, U.S. Navy, Washington D.C. Following these years was a lengthy assignment as Chief, Graphic Arts & Television Production Branch, U.S. Air Force, Holloman Air Force Base, Alamogordo, NM. This assignment included many research programs associated with NASA and space exploration. In 1970 he was appointed a position to the United Nations (ICAO) as Director, Graphic Arts & Motion Picture Production Department with offices in Montreal, Canada and Amsterdam, Holland. He was also a graduate of the Armed Forces Information Officers School. Highlighting his career, he worked with the Walt Disney Production Co. in Florida as Senior Graphic Artist. Mr. Sitzer was an artist specializing in southwestern subjects and sold many paintings throughout New Mexico and West Texas. He was a member of the Society of Photographic Scientists and Engineers and Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers. He was a member of the Congregation Shaareth Israel. Loved ones include his wife, Ruth Sitzer; sons, Scott Barry Sitzer and wife, Nancy of Arlington, VA and Larry Harvey Sitzer and Margie of Hobbs, NM; four grandchildren, Kelly Sitzer, Candace Sitzer, David Sitzer and Ryan Sitzer. He is also survived by a sister, Terry Golden and several nieces and nephews as well as longtime caretaker Norma H. The family would like to send a special thanks to the staff Odyssey Hospice.
