Beatrice Owens

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Beatrice Owens, who departed this life peacefully on June 22, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on July 29, 1936, in Cameron, Texas, Beatrice lived a full life dedicated to the care and love of others, especially through her work in childcare. Beatrice was a shining light in the lives of her family and friends, and her nurturing spirit touched many. For over 30 years, Beatrice ran a warm and loving in-home daycare, where she helped raise and nurture countless children who became like family. Her home was a haven of laughter, learning, and unconditional love-a legacy that lives on in the many lives she touched. Beatrice and her husband, Kenneth Owens, shared a love for antiques and community connection, which they expressed through their booth at the local flea market-a place where friendships were forged and treasures were found. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life: bingo, garage sales, and the music of country legend Alan Jackson, whose songs often filled her home. She will be lovingly remembered by her devoted daughter, Lawanda Smith of Lubbock, and spouse, Kristi Henry; her cherished granddaughter, Katana Smith of Lubbock, and her five beloved dogs- Beatrice's fur great-grandchildren; her beloved grandson, Jason Smith of Round Rock, and his wife, Rebecah Smith, and their two treasured sons and Beatrice's great-grandsons, Tristan and Logan Smith. She is also survived by her loving siblings: sisters Louise Smith Garcia and Tess Smith Arbrough, and brother Horace Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Owens; her sons, Ernest Smith and Jimmy Dewayne; her parents, George W. Smith and Tress Lopez Smith; her sisters, Mary Frances Smith and Helen Smith Galvan; and her brothers, George W. Smith Jr. and James Edward Smith. A private burial service will be held at the City of Lubbock Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest. In this time of loss, we invite those who knew and loved Beatrice to come together in spirit and remembrance. May we find comfort in one another as we honor a life so beautifully lived. Her memory will forever remain in the loving hearts she leaves behind.
