Jean S. Lewis

Jean S. Lewis, 88, of Lubbock, Texas went to be with her beloved Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in paradise on March 5, 2023. Jean was born on August 2, 1934, in Lubbock, TX to Marion and Faye Stratton. Jean was the oldest of 2 children. Jean (or "Billie" as she was known) grew up in Big Spring, TX along with her sister Mary Beth. She met Dan Lewis when she was 16 and said he was "the most handsome lifeguard at the city swimming pool". Dan and Jean were married for 59 years, and they raised 4 children: Daniel Lewis III, Sheila Fischthal, David Lewis, and Sheri Landers. She was known as Mammaw to her 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She was very active and involved in their lives. Countless costumes and crafts were made! Jean was a very detailed and hard working bookkeeper for Plains Cotton Growers for many years, but her family always came first. She was always available for band concerts, football games, and anything that her family needed. She was very creative and enjoyed sewing, crocheting, crafting, and genealogy. Jean and Dan enjoyed bridge every Friday night with friends, and there was usually a card game or Tripoley game happening with lots of "friendly" family competition and laughter! Music was also an important part of the Lewis household. Jean played the piano and her love of classical music was enjoyed by the whole family. She was active in the quilting ministry at Westminster Presbyterian Church, as well as many varied opportunities to serve others. Jean had a genuine servant's heart. She was also an excellent cook! Jean developed lung cancer 20 years ago, and during her chemo & radiation treatment, her faith sustained her. She used her struggles as motivation to encourage others. She never met a stranger and saw her treatment time as her ministry to be positive and encourage the other patients. By God's grace she was miraculously healed of cancer and enjoyed many more years of life. To put it in Dan Lewis' terms.....she got over the goal line! She was preceded in death by her parents Marion and Faye Straton, sister Mary Beth Gerlach, and husband Dan Lewis II. She is survived by her children, Dan Lewis III and his wife Glynna of Terrell, TX; Sheila Fischthal and her husband Glenn of Round Rock, TX; David Lewis of Lubbock, TX; and Sheri Landers and her husband Paul of Livingston, TX. She is also survived by her 9 grandchildren: Rebecca Lewis, Daniel Lewis IV, Jessica Lewis, Joshua Lewis, Michael Lewis, Ian Lewis, Leah Fluitt, Sarah Brandon, and Julia Draughon. Also her 2 great-grandchildren: Rebeka Fluitt and Raylan Fluitt. Although she will be missed by all, our comfort is that she now resides in eternal glory.
