In Loving Memory of Carelton Jenson Peterson October 29, 1977 - July 7, 2026 Carelton Jenson Peterson, lovingly known to many as "C.J.", passed away on July 7, 2026, at the age of 48. Born on October 29, 1977, in Lubbock, Texas, C.J. spent his life building relationships, serving his community, and leaving a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him. C.J. was preceded in death by his parents, Garland Ray Peterson Sr. and Alice Mae Peterson, as well as his brother, Garland Ray Peterson Jr., and his sister, Laura Peterson. He leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory forever: his sister Cortnee Peterson and her daughters, Sydnee and Sallee Peterson; his nephews Jason Peterson and his children, Jason Jr. and Journey Peterson; Aaron and Brittani Burrow and their children, Piper, Palmer, and Parker Burrow; Justyne and Crystal Bowles and their children, JP Naranjo and Shy'Ann Villegas; his brother Lucas and Crystal Thompson; his trusted friend Stephen Filby and the LBK Defense family, along with many cousins, extended family members, friends, and loved ones. A proud graduate of Monterey High School's Class of 1996, C.J. continued his education at South Plains College, earning his degree in Criminal Justice in 2007. He dedicated much of his professional life to serving and protecting others through LBK Defense, where he became a respected leader in the community. His dedication to public service has earned him significant recognition throughout his career. He served as the elected Lubbock County Constable from 2014 to 2018 and was honored as Constable of the Year in 2016. In addition, through his company, LBK Defense, he received the 2023 Community Choice Award for Best Security Services in Lubbock. His extensive law enforcement experience also includes serving as a police officer for both the Levelland Police Department and the Denver City Police Department. C.J. had a passion for life and enjoyed traveling, listening to music, attending concerts, singing karaoke, spending time at the roller rink, playing bingo, and trying his luck gambling. More than his hobbies, however, people will remember the way he made them feel. He was a good and solid man whose generosity knew few limits. He never hesitated to lend a helping hand or offer encouragement to someone in need. C.J. was one of those familiar faces who seemed to appear in many different chapters of people's lives. Some knew him from the football field. Some knew him from political events. Others knew him from the broadcasting studio. Many simply knew him as C.J.-a man who could stop, talk, laugh, help, and make people feel like they truly mattered. His kindness, compassion, and dedication to giving back to others created a legacy that will live on through the countless lives he touched. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him. As we remember C.J., we find comfort in the words of Exodus 14:14: "The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace." A Memorial Service celebrating the life of Carelton Jenson Peterson will be held on Friday, July 17, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Indiana Avenue Baptist Church in Lubbock, Texas.
