Don Mewborn

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Don Mewborn, a beloved son, husband, father, and friend, who left this world peacefully on August 8, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on May 25, 1946, in Lubbock, Texas, Don spent his life in the community he cherished, cultivating deep roots and rich connections that will forever be cherished by those who knew him.Don attended Lubbock High School, where he laid the foundation for a life that would be characterized by hard work and integrity. On June 6, 1974, he married the love of his life, Mary Ruiz, in Crosbyton, Texas. Together, they created a home filled with laughter, love, and the precious memories of their four sons: Shane, Raymond, Matthew and Mark Mewborn. Don was not only a devoted husband but also a proud father who treasured every moment spent with his boys.For over 41 years, Don served as a Maintenance Engineer for City Bank, where he was respected by both colleagues and customers alike. His commitment to servant leadership extended beyond his profession; he consistently exemplified kindness, humility, and a strong work ethic in every facet of his life.In his leisure, Don found joy in the simple pleasures-whether it was dancing with Mary at local honky-tonks, exploring garage and estate sales, or savoring the tranquility of fishing. He cherished the moments spent in solitude on the water but considered the time spent fishing with his sons to be some of his most treasured experiences.Don Mewborn leaves behind a legacy of love, adventure, and unwavering strength. He is survived by his devoted sons, Shane, Raymond and Matthew,his grandchildren, James, Logan, Danny, Zach, Cael, Abigail, Evan and Kynlee; great-grandchildren, Saige, Indigo, Jasper and Brylinn, who will forever carry forward the values he instilled in them.Visitation will be held at Sanders Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at 6:00-8:00 PM, providing an opportunity for friends and family to gather and share their memories of Don. A funeral service will follow on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at 10:30 AM, also at Sanders Memorial Chapel. Don will be laid to rest at the City of Lubbock Cemetery. We invite all who knew and loved Don to join us in honoring a remarkable man whose spirit will continue to shine in our hearts. His kindness, passion for life, and devotion to family will never be forgotten.Don was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Ruiz Mewborn; parents, Elvis Mewborn and Martha Mewborn; Mark Mewborn.
