Edith Cagle

Services for Edith Mannix Cagle, 92, of Lubbock will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 1, 2018 in Sanders Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Edith passed away on February 24, 2018. She was born on September 16, 1925 in Crosbyton, Texas, to George T. and Flora Bell Biggerstaff. She graduated from Tipton High School in 1944 and went to Washington DC to work at the Pentagon where she worked in the Foreign Mail Dept. She was married to Clifton C. Lenamon from 1945 to 1956 in Grosbeck, Texas. Clifton and Edith had two children, Gary and Charlotte. Edith moved to Lubbock in 1956, after she had graduated from nursing school in Taylor, Texas. She married William Ray Cagle on October 20, 1960 in Lubbock, Texas. Ray later passed away in April of 1962. Edith was a nurse at West Texas Hospital for nine years and she retired from the U. S. Postal Service after 26 years of service. She received her Associates Degree at the age of sixty from South Plains College. She was a member of Greenlawn Church of Christ, American Business Women’s Association and National Retired Federal Employee Association. Loved ones include Edith’s son Bill Cagle (whom she raised from age 11) and wife Barbara; and daughter Charlotte Haralson, and husband, Tommy. Grandchildren are: Sean Jackson and wife Elena; Shelley Jackson; Jonathan Haralson and wife Stefanie; Brandon Cagle and wife, Mariah; Cort Cagle and wife, Cody; Ashley Goar and husband, Jim; Gary Lenamon; James Lenamon and wife, Melanie; sixteen great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband William Ray Cagle, son, Gary Lenamon, and great-great grandson, Wyatt Robert Jackson Edith loved to travel. She and Ray, took Charlotte, Bill, and Gary, many times to Arkansas to visit family and friends. One family memory was a trip to California, which included a visit to Disney Land and Sea World. Edith also enjoyed cruises throughout her life to Europe, Alaska, and the Caribbean. Her most recent adventure was a family vacation in Hawaii. Edith enjoyed reading, puzzles, and she was always thrilled with visits from her family. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.
