Joe Scott

On Friday, February 1,2025 our beloved husband, Dad and Poppy gained his wings to Heaven to meet his Heavenly Father and a multitude of family and friends that have passed before him. Gary "Joe" Scott was born August 18, 1950, in Lubbock, TX to Bill and Essie Scott. He was raised in Lubbock where he attended Lubbock High School and Estacado High School. He met the love of his life Cathy Lindley Scott at 25th St Baptist Church and married on February 7, 1969. Joe proudly served in the US Army from 1970-1972 including a one-year tour in Vietnam. Joe was raised at 25th Street Baptist church and was saved at a very young age. Joe was ordained in 1974 and very active in church, serving as youth and music director. He and his family were instrumental in helping to start and organize Bethany Baptist Church in Lubbock and Fellowship Baptist Church in Wolfforth. He was a witness to everyone he knew and met in the way he was friendly and honest with everyone. He always said, "We may be the only Bible some people ever read". Joe learned the basics of carpentry working with his dad and brothers on "Ready Built Road". In 1977 he ventured out on his own and started Scotts Woodwork. He challenged himself to learn while working in both commercial and residential construction. Many considered him an "artist" when designing cabinets, trim and mantels. He took what he learned and passed it onto his son as they worked together in residential construction for over 30 years. They worked for several well-known quality builders here in Lubbock. When not working he loved spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed camping and fishing for crappie at Alan Henry. He enjoyed going to Tech football, basketball and baseball games or watching a good TV western movie, especially John Wayne. Joe and Cathy took dance lessons together for enjoyment. He was well known as the "Sucker Man" at West Texas Motor Speedway. He enjoyed meeting people and never missed a chance to tell a good story or joke. He always kept a jigsaw puzzle going in the living room so he and his grandkids could work together to get them completed and then start another new one. He is survived by his loving wife Cathy, daughter Sherry Wilson (Sammy) of Post, son Gary Scott (Ange) of Lubbock, 5 grandchildren- Justin Harris, AshLeigh Harris, Moriah Scott, Johannah Scott, and Carlee Scott, and 5 great grandchildren- Branson, Rhealynn, Zoey, Faithlynn, and Dallas, sister Jan Anderson (Frank) of Levelland, Sister-in-law Cindy Scott of Arlington and his Uncle Claudie (C.W.) Jarrett of Weatherford along with a multitude of cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers Scotty, Jeff and Jerry, and one sister, Karen Daniel. There will be a visitation on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Sanders Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at Sanders Memorial Chapel.
