It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of James David Mayer, who left us unexpectedly on August 24, 2026, at the tender age of 20. Born on December 14, 2005, in Lubbock, Texas, James was a cherished son, compassionate friend, and a vibrant soul whose presence brought joy and light to all who knew him. A naturally artistic individual, James possessed a remarkable ability to connect with others. His sharp wit, articulate nature, and compassion made him a beloved figure in the lives of others. He had a passion for cooking, recently turning his focus towards nutrition and healthy living. In his formative years, James explored the performing arts through his involvement with Destination Imagination, showcasing his creativity and talent. He had a striking knowledge of Bible scriptures and a unique ability to convey their meanings with sincerity and understanding. Music played a significant role in James's life; he found solace and joy in playing the guitar and attending concerts. He held an immense love for animals and cherished every moment spent in the company of family and friends. James thrived in the company of others, and his family wishes to emphasize the importance of mental health initiatives, advocating for increased accessibility to resources for those in need. James is survived by his father, Michael Mayer, his mother, Fay Madrigal, his sister, Annabelle Mayer, his brother, Leopold Mayer, and his father's longtime companion, Josie Rey. His warmth and infectious laughter will forever resonate in the hearts of his family and friends. In honor of James's life, a memorial service will be held at Sanders Memorial Chapel on September 12, 2026, at 1:00 PM. Prior to this, a visitation will take place at Sanders Funeral Home on September 11, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM. James will be peacefully laid to rest at the City of Lubbock Cemetery once a date for his inurnment has been decided. As we come together to celebrate the remarkable life of James David Mayer, let us remember and cherish the moments we shared with him, carrying forth his spirit of kindness, creativity, and connection in our own lives. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
