Jesus Tijerina

Jesus Tijerina, Sr., 92, of Lubbock, went to be with the Lord on October 12, 2025. He was born on September 21, 1933, in Los Ebanos, Texas to the late Anastacio Sr. and Maria (Ramirez) Tijerina. Jesus grew up in Hargill, Texas, where he later married the love of his life, Maria Sofia Cantu, on July 12, 1953. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised a family grounded in faith, love, and hard work. A proud veteran of the U.S. Army, Jesus served his country with honor and integrity. After his military service, he dedicated over 30 years to Gifford-Hill American, Inc., where he became known for his unwavering work ethic and strength of character. Jesus was the epitome of hard work, resilience, and dedication. His legacy is one of integrity, love, and faith. He believed deeply in the power of family and devoted his life to creating a warm, Christian, and supportive home. His greatest joy came from his role as "Papi" to his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, who adored him dearly. He was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, brother in-law, uncle and friend. A long-time member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Jesus instilled in his family the importance of faith and following Jesus Christ. He enjoyed the simple things in life - classic westerns that echoed his values, wrestling matches full of action, listening to Spanish music - especially norteño, Tejano, and mariachi and cheering on his beloved Dallas Cowboys. He also enjoyed cooking, especially barbecues, and cherished every moment spent gathered with his family around the table, sharing food, laughter, and love. Those left to cherish his memory include his six children: Jesse (Helen) Tijerina, Jaime Tijerina, Aida (Albert C.) Garcia, Yolanda Carranco, Ninfa (Joe) Flores, Linda (Joe L.) Landin; and his sister, Elubinia Sampayo, all of Lubbock. He is also survived by his adoring 19 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Maria Sofia Tijerina; his parents; his brothers: Anastacio, Cosme, Miguel, Francisco, and Cruz Tijerina; his sister, Mary T. Davila; his infant son, John Paul Tijerina; and his grandson, Jason Tijerina. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 19, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a holy rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m., at Sanders Funeral Home Memorial Chapel. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, October 20 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Lubbock, TX. The Pallbearers are Joshua Flores, Trey Flores, Zach Flores, Albert Alan Garcia, Joel Rodriguez, and John Paul Rodriguez. His life was a shining example of faith in action, and his legacy of love, sacrifice, and quiet leadership will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
