Joan Bryan

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Joan Bethany Bryan went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 27, 2021. Joan was born January 17, 1936, in Lubbock, Texas to Bryan and Leila Bethany. She attended Lubbock schools and graduated from Lubbock High School in 1954. With the encouragement and financial help of her older sister, she became the first of her family to graduate from college. She received her Bachelor of Science in Education from Texas Tech College in 1958. She was an elementary school teacher in Austin, Texas, and at LISD schools Murfee Elementary and Honey Elementary. Joan married her love Joe Dale Bryan on January 25, 1958 in Bowman Chapel of First Methodist Church, and they were married 63 years. This lifelong union was blessed with three daughters Susan LaFreniere (Larry), Linda Jetter (Robert), and Judy Marshall (Jack) all of Lubbock. She also was blessed with nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. After raising her children, Joan enjoyed her friendships at the Lubbock Women's Club where she served as treasurer. She also served as president of The Sherick, a women's retirement home and with her friends in P.E.O. Her greatest desire was to be remembered for her faith in Christ. She enjoyed teaching children in Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, and teaching adults through Community Bible Study. She was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church. A celebration of the life of Joan Bryan will be Friday, April 30 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke's United Methodist Church (Central Campus) with Dr. Andy Hurst officiating. Viewing will be from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 29, 2021, at Sanders Funeral Home. You may also celebrate the life of Joan by visiting www.sandersfuneralhome.com. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren, a sister Frances Willbanks of Irving and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Bryanette Davis of Lubbock. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Luke's United Methodist Church in her memory.
