Joyce LaVerne Hawkins Joyce went to dance with the angels Tuesday, October 21, 2014 in the morning. She was a loved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-gram. She will be remembered for her kindness, generous heart, love of her family and friends. She was born in Portales, New Mexico August 26, 1933 to Sula Mae Crane and Wilmer Bloodworth. She married Willis Arden Hawkins December 16, 1950 in Clovis, New Mexico. They moved to the Lubbock community in 1970. She was a retired bookkeeper and former cosmetician at Day Drug. Joyce was a member of the Broadway Church of Christ, former Eastern Star, Covenant Lakeside Auxiliary formerly known as St. Mary’s Auxiliary, and member of New Neighbors Club since 1996. She served as president from 2002-2003; also served on the board as Treasurer and Vice President. She was an avid bridge player and member of several clubs. Joyce is survived by her husband, Arden; son, James Hawkins of Lubbock; daughters, Kaye Dowell and husband Hank of Guthrie, Oklahoma, and Karen Robertson and husband Glen of Lubbock; siblings, James Wallace of Pueblo, Colorado, Sandra Sue Newby of San Saba, Texas, Faye Rotondo of Arlington, Texas, Johnny Wallace of Haslet, Texas, Bobby Wallace of Teague, Texas, Rolan Wallace of Lampassas, Texas, Wanda Tuscana of Bandera, Texas and Margaret Hall of Conroe, Arkansas; grandchildren, Brian Dowell and wife Keely of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Elizabeth Ball and husband Justin of Agra, Oklahoma, and Kirby Phillips and wife Brooke of Lubbock; great-grandchildren, Adler Ball, Carsyn Ball, Wrigley Dowell and Crue Phillips. Also greeting her at heaven’s gate were a host of angels, Roberta and Arthur Hawkins (in-laws), Sula Mae McBee (mother), and CJ Phillips (grandson). A Memorial service will be held on Friday, October 24, 2014 at 11:00 A.M., at Sanders Funeral Home Chapel with Floyd Stumbo and Rodney Thomas officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial donations be made to Hospice of Lubbock or favorite charity.
