Joyce Juanell Markham

Joyce Markham, 94, of Lubbock, Texas passed away May 26, 2024. Joyce was born October 14, 1929, in Floydada, TX to Herschel and Floy Stanley. When she was 12, Joyce and her parents and younger brother Dorman moved to Lubbock. Around the age of 15 she met the love of her life, a handsome young neighbor boy named Dick. They dated all through high school and married in 1949. Dick's talent and hard work as a custom cabinet builder allowed Joyce to fulfill her dream of being a mother and homemaker. Between 1951 and 1959 they welcomed daughters Jan and Karen and son John. Joyce was a very creative artist, pianist and organist, excellent cook and seamstress, and most importantly, taught her children about Jesus. Everyone who knew her admired her quiet faith, strong prayer life, and gracious loving spirit. Her life verse was Proverbs 3:5-6, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and he shall direct your paths." She was a faithful church member and was always willing to serve in any way she could. Dick and Joyce visited all the lower 48 states in their RV and enjoyed many motorcycle trips with friends. They loved Bluegrass music and attended numerous festivals through the years. Loved ones include beloved husband Dick Markham; daughter Jan Trim and husband Kent of Lubbock; daughter Karen Faulkner and Neil of Lamesa, daughter-in-law Lynn Markham of Lubbock, grandchildren Phillip Trim and wife Cindi of Lubbock, Julie Petmecky of Lubbock, Todd Faulkner and wife Jana of Slaton, Lillian Borella and husband Wesley of Lamesa, great grandchildren Clint Faulkner and wife Katy of Lubbock, Taylor Owens and husband Casey of Lubbock, Madison Lynch Borella of Lamesa, Weston Trim of Lubbock, Haley Hitch and husband Quentin of Lubbock, five great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents Herschel and Floy Stanley; brother Dorman Stanley, and son John Markham. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, June 1, 2024, in Sanders Memorial Chapel with Rev. Bruce McBee officiating. Graveside services will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park.
