Kate Taylor Buchanan

A celebration of life for Kate Taylor Buchanan, 16, of Lubbock, Texas, will be held at 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 15, 2020, in the First Christian Church Sanctuary with Pastor Mike Martindale officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, December 14, 2020, at Sanders Funeral Home. Due to COVID restrictions, please consider attending the visitation on Monday and watching the service with your loved ones and friends via livestream. This will allow Kate’s family, childhood friends, teachers and fellow students to attend the service. Masks will be required at visitation and service. Kate was received into the loving arms of her Lord on December 8, 2020. She was born July 28, 2004, in Lubbock, Texas, to Robert and Gracie Buchanan. Loved ones include her siblings, Patrick, Erin and Ella Buchanan; grandparents, Bob Buchanan; Viola and Darrell Cooper; and countless aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Terri Buchanan, Pat Nieto, and her beloved cat, Oreo. Kate was a junior at Monterey High School where she was a key member of the Robotics Team, an accomplished cellist in the orchestra program, and an active member of the Project Lead the Way STEM program where she excelled in computer programming. Kate was known for her unique style, beautiful smile, amazing wit, and many talents. She loved to sing and listen to music from her phone and her record player. She played MineCraft and Animal Crossing with her large group of friends. Kate enjoyed TV shows and movies that were animated, like Steven Universe, Howl’s Moving Castle, and Toradora. She was an avid reader and also enjoyed listening to and watching videos about mysteries and scary stories. She was creative, and so many of her friends and family have bracelets and special gifts that she made especially for them. Kate was a beautiful, free spirit who touched so many lives, and her legacy of love and compassion will always live on in the countless people who loved her.
