Leon Cowan

Audie Leon Cowan, 75, of New Deal, Texas went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 12, 2022. Leon was born May 7, 1947 in Turlock , CA to Pleas and Mary Cowan. He graduated from High School in Modesto, CA then moved to Lubbock, TX in 1969 where he met and later married Van Ola Provence on March 26, 1969. Van Ola preceded him in death on September 21, 2001. On February 18, 2010 Leon married Leona Hefner of Lubbock, TX. Leon spent many years working with his family for DuraBuilt Portable Buildings and ended his working career with Lubbock Auto Auction when he retired. Loved ones include his wife, Leona Cowan of New Deal, TX; 2 sons, Deon Cowan and wife Liz, and Dwayne Cowan of Lubbock, TX; sisters, Jean Kimmel Hughes of San Diego, CA and Suzie Shipley of Amity, OR; 5 grandchildren, Trevor Cowan, Stormie Cowan, Aaron Cowan and wife, Emily, Will Overstreet and Drew Overstreet; Step-children Jimmy Evans and wife D'Linda of Paris, TX and Velma Grisham and husband, Richard of Hurst, TX; Step-grandchildren Rachel Tucker and husband Bobby, Shannon Bennett and wife Misty, and Stacy Leach and husband Chris all of Lubbock, TX; Leslie Keele and husband Tim of Paris, TX; Kristina Prichard and husband Adam of Benton, AZ; a total of 17 step-great grandchildren including JD Tucker, Evan Keys, Tristan and Judd Bennett of Lubbock, TX. Preceded in death by his parents, Pleas and Mary Cowan; brothers, Gary Cowan, Mike Cowan and Wayne Hale, and Patricia Conduff. Leon loved the Lord with his whole heart and shared that passion with every person he came in contact with. He loved his boys, adored his grandchildren and never knew a stranger. Leon enjoyed time with his family and friends and was a constant fixture in his church. He will always be remembered by his smile, his love for Christ and his gentle heart. Leon lived out his faith until the very end and left an amazing legacy here on earth. Memorials are suggested to Upland Mission in care of Calvary Baptist Church. Family visitation will be at Sanders Funeral Home on Monday, May 16, 2022, 7:00 to 8:30 PM. A celebration of his life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at Broadview Baptist Church with Dr. David Rhoades and Reverend Ed Clark officiating.
