Mary Garrett Gallaway

On Tuesday, January 3, 2023, loving mother, GG, MeMaw and friend, Mary Garrett Gallaway passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior at the age of 91. Mary was born on November 21, 1931 in San Antonio, Texas to Freeman and Otillia Eaton. Mary was their only child but was raised with cousins, Elmer, Ernest and Betty Lou Schilling, all of which she considered to be her siblings. She met Marvin Garrett, her high school sweetheart, at Hot Wells High School in San Antonio, Texas and they married in October of 1949. Mary was adored by Marvin and she was known to him as his "Yellow Rose of Texas". Together, they raised 4 daughters and created a beautiful life together over their 47 years of marriage. Marvin proceeded Mary in death in May of 1991 but Mary carried on his legacy by continuing family traditions that created a family bond that one can only dream of. Mary was a talented interior designer and owned her own businesses, Party Hut and Designers Showcase, in Lubbock, Texas. She used her artistic talents to create unique designs over her 20 year career. She was also the Co-director of Miss Lubbock and Miss Lubbock Teen USA for 5 years. Mary was truly one of a kind. She was known and loved by many for her kindness, generosity and hospitality. Mary opened her home and extended a welcome to anyone that needed a place to belong. Whether it was a friend of a grandchild who needed a family away from home while attending college at Texas Tech, a friend who needed somewhere to go for the holidays or simply to share in a family dinner, Mary would gladly welcome others. Family was the most important thing to Mary. She loved her family unconditionally and taught them what it meant to stick together no matter what life brought their way. Mary was intentional, invested and present in every aspect of her children's', grandchildren's' and great grandchildren's lives. Mary was there for life's big moments, dressed to the nines with a beaming smile on her face. She hosted holidays and Sunday dinners with her family and never missed an opportunity to gather with family in her home. She would tell her family "I love you more" as she couldn't find other words that could adequately describe the depth of her love for her beloved family. Mary is survived by her daughter Tillie Harmon and husband Ken; daughter Kathy Bouldin and husband Ronnie; daughter Helen Guyton; daughter Dinah Burrow; grandchildren Bart Harmon, Chris Harmon and wife Nicole, Ryan Harmon, Sundae Bouldin, Lee Bouldin and wife Mary Alice, Summer Sims, Blake Guyton and wife Mallory, Beau Guyton, Brooke Ellis and husband Nolan, Allison Guyton, Tiffany Owens and husband Kyle, and Kimberly Stokes and husband Ryan; Great Grandchildren Ashton, Alexan, Dustin, Destinee and husband Christian, Skyler and wife Macey, Kenzee , Kaylor, Landon, Trinity, Caden, Bryce, Ava, Savannah, Garrett, Kate, Noah, Emilia, Violet, Dexter, Keith, Maryn and Kinley; Great Great grandchildren Brylee, Brixleigh and Kamden. Mary is proceeded in death by Freeman and Tillie Eaton, Marvin Garrett, Ransom Gallaway, Kaili Bonnette, Barrett Guyton and Dean Guyton. A service to celebrate the life of Mary Garrett Gallaway will be held on Saturday January 7, 2023 at 11:00 am at Sanders Funeral Home. Graveside immediately following at Peaceful Gardens.
