Olivia G Mendoza

Olivia Mendoza, 83, of Lubbock, Texas passed away October 6, 2022. Olivia was born November 28, 1938, in Ciudad Mier,Tamaulipas, Mexico to Pascual and Nieves Garza. Olivia moved to the United States as a young girl and began her journey to become a United States citizen, a goal that she proudly achieved. She lived in Lubbock, Texas, most of her life where she and her husband, Juan, co-owned and operated Mendoza's Furniture & Upholstery for 40 years. She was a Chapter Member of Christ the King Catholic Church, as well as a member of the Cursillistas and Guadalupanas movements of Christ the King Catholic Church. She also taught Catechism for many years. Olivia had a servant's heart and loved the Lord, her family, her church, and community. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, and singing. Everyone who knew her loved her homemade tamales, enchiladas, and her famous barbacoa. She had a great love for her rose gardens and spent many hours tending to her rose bushes and other beautiful flowers. She also had a great love for her parrots, Pepe and Houdini, her escape artist. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and an inspiration to her family, who greatly loved her. Loved ones include her daughter and son-in-law, Molly and Barry Holbert; son, Albert Mendoza; son and daughter-in-law, Daniel Mendoza and Rocio Canseco Mendoza; son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Cynthia Mendoza; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Gloria Gonzales and Angelica Gomez. Preceded in death by husband, Juan Mendoza; father and mother, Pascual and Nieves Garza; brothers, Octavio, Roberto, and Feliciano Garza; sisters, Bertha Gonzalez and Herlinda Guanajuato, and Angelica Garza. Visitation will be at Sanders Funeral Home, Sunday, October 9, 2022, 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM. A Rosary is scheduled for 2:30 PM, Sunday, October 9, 2022 at Sander's Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass is scheduled for Monday, October 10, 2022, at 10:00 AM, at Christ the King Catholic Church with Father Jeremy Trull officiating.
