Rafael Garza

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Rafael Garza, a beloved father, brother, and friend, who left this world on August 18, 2026, at the age of 78. Rafael was born on November 29, 1947, in Raymondville, Texas. He spent his days as a dedicated mail carrier, a position he held with pride within the postal industry. Rafael served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam war, until honorably discharged on January 23, 1970. His commitment to family and community remained fiercely evident throughout his life. Those who knew him remember his warmth, kindness, and unwavering support. His legacy will continue to resonate within the hearts of those he cherished. In December 2007, Rafael met Angelita Guerrero, who he often referred to as his Soul Mate. For the next 18 years they took cruises, traveled to Chile, Costa Rica, Mexico, and all over the United States. He often said to all who knew him that his later years were the best of his life. Rafael was quite musically inclined and played the Accordion, Drums, and Saxophone. He loved dancing and spent many, many weekends going to Tejano dances with Angelita. Rafael is survived by his life partner, Angelita Guerrero, and his children Ophelia Landin and husband, Daniel; Herminia Garza; and Aaron Garza and wife, Erica; as well as Angelita's children Rey Reyes and wife, Lorie; Alicia Anger and husband, Shawn; Israel Reyes and wife, Kristina; Mario Guerrero, and wife Leeann; and Joel Guerrero and wife, Liz. He will also be deeply missed by his siblings Janie Montelongo and husband, Roy; Julian Garza and wife, Tina; Raymond Garza and wife, Janie; Sylvia Perez; Rene Garza and wife, Petra; Connie Patel and husband, Anant; and Arnold Garza; including his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends that will carry with them a piece of Rafael's spirit, enriched by his love and guidance. Rafael was preceded in death by his parents Elida Garza and Raymundo Garza and his sister Elvira Sauceda. A visitation will be held at Sanders Funeral Home Memorial Chapel from 5-6 p.m. to share memories of Rafael's life, followed by a Rosary at 6:00 p.m. Mass will be at Saint John The Baptist Catholic Church on August 24, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. He will be laid to rest at the West Texas Veteran Cemetery, 4614 East 50th Street, surrounded by the love he shared with those he held dear. In this time of reflection and remembrance, we encourage all who knew Rafael to come together to celebrate the remarkable life he lived, the love he gave, and the legacy he leaves behind. May he rest in peace.
