Ricardo Mercado

It is with both heavy hearts and warm memories that we celebrate the life of Ricardo "Ricky" Mercado, who passed away unexpectedly at the age of 67 on December 7, 2025. Born on May 14, 1958, in Mission, TX, Ricardo graced us with his presence for nearly seven decades, enriching the lives of his family and friends in ways that will forever be cherished. Ricky graduated from Floydada High School in 1976 and married the love of his life, Mary Casas, on August 20, 1979. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with laughter, love, and countless memories. A devoted father, Ricardo is survived by his beloved spouse, Mary, and five children: David Lee Mercado, Jason Mercado, Mary Helen (Ernie) Guzman, Lindsey Mercado and fiance Darwin, and Roxanne Ponce. He was also a cherished grandfather to his many grandchildren, including Lucas, Blake, and Zorian Mercado, Jason and Alex Mercado, Aryah Flores and fiance Matthew, Jordan and Avery Flores, Melody Mercado, Vincent and Xavier Coy, Rene and Matthew Ponce, Edvann and Jhovann Sandoval; and nine precious great grandchildren. For an incredible thirty-one years, Ricardo dedicated his career to CitiBus, where he was known for his exceptional driving skills and friendly demeanor. He was not only a driver but a familiar face in the Lubbock community, always ready with a smile and a kind word. Ricky enjoyed watching Southcrest Baptist church on Sundays, football and wrestling, which often brought him great joy. He cherished the peaceful moments spent fishing and was particularly fond of gatherings with family and friends. He loved the Dallas Cowboys and had an ear for good music. He will be remembered by his willingness to always help others. Ricardo is also survived by his sisters: Alicia Garza, Estella Pena, Adela Espinoza, and Ester Mercado, who will carry his spirit in their hearts forever. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm on Friday, December 12, 2025, at Sanders Funeral Home. A service to celebrate the life of Ricardo Mercado will be at Sanders Memorial Chapel on Friday, December 12, 2025, at 3:00pm, where family and friends are invited to come together and honor his legacy. The ceremony will be an opportunity for all who knew Ricardo to share stories, laughter, and tears, reflecting on the beautiful life he led and the cherished memories he created. In keeping with Ricardo's wishes, he will be cremated, allowing him to be forever remembered in the hearts of those who loved him. As we come together to say our goodbyes, we invite everyone to join us in celebrating a life well-lived, a spirit that touched many, and a legacy that will endure through each of us. Ricky's kindness and love will always remain in our hearts, and we are grateful for the time we shared with him. Rest in peace, dear Ricardo. Your memory will forever shine brightly in our lives.
