Richard Nugent

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Richard Nugent, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who left us at the age of 74. Raised in Hawesville, Kentucky, Richard spent the past 30 years in Lubbock, Texas, where he touched the lives of many with his warm spirit and compassionate nature. Richard is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn Reisz Nugent; his children, Melanie Nugent (Ofer) Mintz, Christopher Nugent, and Kimberly Nugent (Samuel) Shreve; his sister, Helen Barr (Bill) Moss. He is also survived by his six cherished grandchildren: Ari Mintz, Allie Shreve, Dylan Mintz, Bryant Shreve, Isaac Mintz and Adam Mintz. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bryant Nugent Jr. and Helen Krahwinkel Nugent. Richard was a sentimental man, whose love for his family knew no bounds, and whose memory will forever hold a special place in the hearts of all who knew him. Richard was a dedicated President and CFO in the manufacturing industry, where his leadership, commitment and determination were widely recognized at Empire of Carolina, Santa's Best, and Hurley Companies of Lubbock. Yet, it was his loyalty and dedication to the things he loved that truly defined him. Richard was not only a devoted husband to his beloved wife of 50 years, Marilyn, but also a proud father to his children and a treasured grandfather to his six grandchildren, whom he took great joy in spoiling. He cherished his roles as a father and grandfather, creating a lasting legacy of love and laughter for his family. A passionate sports fan, Richard was a die-hard supporter of University of Kentucky Basketball, never missing an opportunity to cheer on his team - Go Big Blue! His infectious sense of humor shone brightly, as he delighted in pulling pranks and surprises that brought joy to friends and family alike. Outside of his professional life, he enjoyed afternoons on the golf course and cherished dinner gatherings with his family, filling their home with laughter and fond memories. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation at Sanders Memorial Chapel in Lubbock, TX on Monday June 1, 2026, at 6:00 pm, followed by entombment at Resurrection Cemetery in Owensboro, KY, on Saturday June 6, 2026, at 10:00 am. His family and friends will gather to celebrate Richard's life and reminisce about the wonderful moments shared, ensuring that his spirit continues to thrive in the stories they tell.
