Ronald Keith Hacker

Ronald Keith Hacker “Pop Pop” was called home by his Heavenly Father January 9, 2020. Growing up, Ron faced many hardships that would have derailed lesser men, but not him. Ron was a tremendously determined man and was an inspiration to all he met. Ron grew up in Lubbock Texas, where at 16 years old he met the love of his life, Carla who was just 15. In 1971, he joined the Air Force which thrusted the young couple on their wonderful journey in life. In 1972, they were blessed with their son Mark, who grounded them in the reality and the fact that having children wasn’t easy. A few sleepless years later in 1975 the couple was once again blessed with a child, but this time a beautiful daughter, Crystal. Family was everything to Ron and there was no limit to what he would do for his family. While serving in the military it was common for him to work two and three jobs at a time; a trend that continued even after his honorable discharge from service as a sergeant in 1980. Ron’s devotion and dedication to his family was second to none. He and Carla continued with life, always gaining and moving forward by building a loving bond that couldn’t be broken. The two secured their “forever-home” when Carla’s Grandfather, Cecil Knott, gave them the original Knott Family Homestead. Ron and Carla, with the help of lots of family, had the home moved into town, where it still resides today. Ron spent the next several years remodeling that house, in the pursuit of making it into their dream home. Ron was an extremely talented and gifted craftsman and many people will tell you there was nothing the man could not build or improve. He spent a lot of his life doing both for his family and friends. He continued to set examples and motivate when he decided to go back to school and acquire a degree in electrical engineering, so that he could better provide for his family. The man actually did this while working full time and raising a young family. He was always motivated to succeed and set a great example for his children. The family continued to expand, first with the birth of Garrett; whom sadly in 2013 passed away in an accident. Ron and Garrett spent many days together playing, laughing, and riding together on Ron’s motorcycle making memories. This is where Ron got the name Pop Pop. These were the best words Garrett could mutter when grandpa came around on that “popping” motor cycle. Offiially, Pop Pop it was! A couple of years later Brice was born, and Ron and Brice became extremely close while working together on various projects, hunting ,and sharing their love of leatherworking. The two spent many hours together perfecting the craft. Well, now Ron had two grandsons to spoil, teach how to be great young men, and continue on the Hacker name. What a role model he was to these two boys, but God had yet another surprise in store! Ron didn’t know he was missing something, until he was blessed with a granddaughter, Ashton. Ron was so in love with this little girl and now he had another little princess to spoil and protect. Ron spent as much time as possible with Ashton; many times traveling to see her, and likewise, flying her to Lubbock to be with he and Carla. Ron loved his wife, kids, and grandkids more than life. He was able to live out his remaining years showing them how special they were. On March 7, 2019 his wife Carla was taken away due to medical issues. In Carla’s last month’s Ron cared for her 100%, never leaving her side and constantly reassuring their love for one another. Ron and Carla were handpicked by God and they truly demonstrated what true love means. Through all the good and hard times they never faltered and had an amazing marriage of over 48 years. If the man did anything in his life it was showing the people in his life how much they meant to him. He always put other’s needs before his own, and was a true measure of a man. Those blessed enough to have known him would affirm that he was one in a million. Ron never met a stranger and greeted everyone with a hug, a handshake, and the best smile you’ve ever seen. Ron believed in his faith and its promise of everlasting life. He knew that promise would guarantee that he would once again be with those he left behind.Ron found comfort in the fact he would one day be reunited with those that were called to Heaven before him Graveside services will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at the City of Lubbock Cemetery.
