Rowland Keith Nitcher

Rowland Keith Nitcher, 92, of Lubbock, TX, peacefully passed on November 26, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones. Rowland was born on July 3, 1932 along with his twin, Raymond Leith Nitcher to Ray and Buena Vista Nitcher in Quenemo, KS. After Rowland graduated from Iola High School in 1950, he went on to study Music Ministry at Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, TX. Rowland met his wife, Wilma Emerson, while leading the music at a church revival in Enochs, TX and they were married on January 30th, 1954. Rowland served in the military, worked in the retail field, then returned to college at age 40 to complete his BA in Music Education. He taught music to the students of Frenship Schools for 21 years. While teaching, he served as a music ministry to Antioch Baptist Church of Lubbock, TX and First Methodist of Wolfforth, TX. Music, teaching, leading worship, and loving people was Rowland's life long passion. Rowland never met a stranger and was known for his friendly ease in speaking to people. In his retirement years, he and Wilma worked many crafts shows around West Texas where they continued making new friends. Rowland took care of Wilma until she passed on February 27, 2017. He spent most of his time at church activities, playing the piano, going out to eat with friends, and listening to gospel music while he read the morning paper. In the last years Bacon Heights Baptist Church and its members became his lifeline, where he attended Sunday school, and sang with his beloved Sonshiner Senior Choir. Rowland was preceded by his wife, Wilma, his siblings, Max Nitcher, Carol Shoaf, Mary Lea Wright, and his twin brother Raymond Nitcher, who passed in 2022 and daughter-in-law Vicki Nitcher who passed in 2019. Rowland is survived by son Randy Nitcher, grandson Cody and wife Mindy, great granddaughters Violet and Millie; grandson Casey Nitcher, granddaughter Coree Everett and husband Jarrett. Son Rod Nitcher and wife Tamie, grandchildren Kenneth Nitcher, Amber and Matt Unfred, Chelsey and Jobe Danner and great grandchildren Baylor Unfred, Reagan Unfred, Bryson Unfred, Palmer and Dash Danner. Son Reggie Nitcher and wife Lynn, grandchildren Amanda and Zach Smith, Lacey and Dillon Dean, and Reid Nitcher and great grandchildren Nash Smith and Riley Dean. Daughter Robyn Kuiper and husband Arthur, grandchildren Addie Kuiper and Grace and Collin Montgomery. Funeral Services will be held at Bacon Heights Baptist Church, 5110 54th St. Lubbock, TX on December 12th at 10am followed by gravesite at Resthaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Bacon Heights Senior Adult Sonshiner Choir, in remembrance of Rowland.
