Rozalind Rodriquez-Alston

Rozalind Rodriquez-Alston, 53, of Lubbock, TX passed away October 25, 2022. She was at her home surrounded by her loving devoted husband and family. Rozalind was born June 30, 1969, in Lubbock, TX to James & Olga Rodriquez. She grew up in Lubbock where she played softball, soccer, and basketball. Rozalind's favorite sport was softball, which was special because her father James coached her softball teams and together celebrated several winning seasons. Later, she was recruited to play for Lampe Green traveling team which was coached by the late Bobby Drum. Rozalind graduated from Lubbock High School 1987, then attended South Plains College. Rozalind worked at Texas Tech in the Leadership Development Center as Advisor for Student Housing from 2016 to 2020. She was the recipient of the 2017 Matador Award. The Carol of Lights was a project she devoted her time and energy until it was completed each year. Co-workers have shared many memories about her warmth, great smiles, and willingness to go above and beyond to help students or anyone that came into her office always feel welcomed. Prior to working at Texas Tech, Rozalind also created a group of friends who she was proud to call her family at Ramar-Fox 34 and KLBK-KAMC in the Traffic Department. Her passion was to provide great customer service to anyone she talked to on the phone or in her office. Rozalind and her colleagues were very close friends/family even today. Rozalind's home was always open to friends and family that needed a place to stay overnight or longer if needed. Love was always radiated by her hospitality. She is survived by her loving husband Mark Alston of 16 years; daughter Kirsten Davis (Doug) of Plainview, TX; son Matthew Alston (Chris) of Lubbock, TX; her parents James & Olga Rodriquez of Amarillo, TX; father-in-laws Johnny Alston of Lubbock , TX; and Jim Bacon (Lisa) of Surprise, AZ; two sisters Kim Polk (Ben) of Dallas, TX; Roxanne Cheek (Kevin) of Amarillo, TX; two sister in-laws Amy Minne (Jules) of Lubbock, TX; Lori Alston of Plainview,TX. Two Grandchildren Zayyla Soto of Lubbock, TX; and Jaxon Davis of Plainview, TX. Seven nephews James Polk, Ben Polk, Jake Cheek, Bower Cheek, Ashton Minne, Zayden Alston, and Zylas Alston. Two nieces Ava Minne, and Deverie Minne. Preceded in death by her daughter Haley Alejandra Rodriquez, Maternal Grandfather Manuel Vargas, Maternal Grandmother Isabel (Chavela) Vargas, Paternal Grandmother Helen Rodriquez. Mother in-law Patsy Bacon, brother in-law Lee Alston. The Alston and Rodriquez family's sincerely appreciated all of the loving support of caregivers, life-long friends, and family in the recent months. We also want to thank all of the doctors and nurses involved in her care at UMC Hospital, UMC Home Health, and Hospice. A celebration of her life will be at 11:00 am on November 5, 2022 at Sanders Funeral Home at 1420 Main St Lubbock, TX 79401; with Rusty Sieck officiating.
