“I will take you by the hand and keep you …” (Isaiah 42:6). Theodore Thomas Hayes was born on September 29, 1926 in Bluejacket, Oklahoma, to the late Inez Beaver Hayes and the late Hiram S. Hayes. On Wednesday, April 25, 2018, Jesus took his hand and lead him to his eternal home. Ted married Sallie Mae Jackson on December 20, 1950, in Vinita, Oklahoma; she proceeded him in death on February 21, 2016. He also joined son, Ted Hayes; grandson, Keith Hayes; son-in-law Kevin Moushon; sister, Orpha Jewell Wever; brother, Billy Hayes; and numerous family and friends in eternity. Ted attended the University of Arkansas, although he invested more into Texas Tech through five of his children who attended there. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps, which became the United States Air Force; he retired as a Chief Master Sergeant in 1970, after 31 years of service. He retired from his final civilian job at Eagle Pitcher in Lubbock in 1989. He enjoyed watching sports (especially Texas Tech), handling Jack-of-all-trades projects, doing yard work, working with the Lubbock County Republican Party, having served for a time as a Precinct Chairman and election judge, and being active as a Baptist deacon in church. His faith was most important to him, followed closely by love for his family. He leaves behind daughter, Brenda Hayes, of Lubbock; daughter, Connie and Budd Jones of Montgomery, Alabama, and their children David and Sara Jones, and Janice and Josh Simons; daughter-in-law, Theda of Bevercreek, Ohio, and their children Ray and Tami Hayes, and Ruth and Rob Mitchell; son, Tom and Claire Hayes of Coquitlam, BC, Canada, and their children, Kristin and Stephen Swift, Andrew Hayes, Shannon Hayes, and Bryan Hayes; son, Tim and Clarissa Hayes, of Lubbock, and their daughter, Hope and Geoff Sisemore; daughter, Ann Moushon, of Lubbock, and her son, Jackson Moushon; great granddaughters Maggie, Katie, and Sammie Jones, and Miriam Hayes; great grandson, William Theodore Hayes; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. Ted and Sallie’s cremated remains will be buried at a later date in South Carolina. Instead of gifts, flowers, or cards, the family asks that you consider sending a living memorial to a favorite charity.
