A celebration of the life of Christine Mitchell, 98, of Denton, Texas, will be held in the Sanders Funeral Home Memorial Chapel at 10:30 AM, Saturday March 21, 2020, with Doug Hale former minister of Vandelia Church of Christ officiating. Graveside services will follow in City of Lubbock Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:30 AM until services. Please celebrate the life of Christine by visiting www.sandersfuneralhome.com. Christine was born on September 14, 1921 in Palestine, Texas and died in Denton, Texas on March 10, 2020. She was the daughter of Hattie and Robert Carr and grew up in Robertson County where she graduated from Franklin High School. She received her BA degree from Sam Houston State Teachers College in Huntsville. She taught in Missouri City and Pasadena in the Houston area. Christine married Milford G. Mitchell in Houston on March 13, 1943. After his military service in WW II, they made their home in Wichita, KS, Waco, TX and San Antonio, TX before moving to Lubbock, TX in 1957. Christine was a member of Vandelia Church of Christ during her years in Lubbock. She enjoyed volunteering to help with the annual book sale conducted by the Lubbock Friends of the Library. She and her husband traveled extensively in the United States during his retirement. Collecting books was an avid interest they shared. Her husband died in Lubbock on March 10, 2004. She is survived by four children and their spouses: Robert and Virginia Mitchell of Fremont, CA; Edward and Linda Mitchell of Lower Waterford, VT; Sarah and Frank Gaxiola of Omaha, NE; Mary and John Gore of Denton, TX. She is also survived by four grandchildren and four great grandchildren: Jonathan Garner of Eureka, CA; Ryan Mitchell and wife Casey and their son Reed and daughter Ruby of Berkeley, CA; Emily Mitchell-Gepp and husband Ignacio and their daughter Olivia of Santiago, Chile; Trevor Gore and wife Hillary of Memphis, TN. She was predeceased by her granddaughter Melissa McMahon leaving her husband Scott and son Miles of Omaha, NE.
