Cynthia Lea Rieger

May 8, 1957 - November 19, 2020

Cynthia "Cindy" Lea Rieger, 63, of Lubbock, passed away November 19, 2020. She was born to the late Harley "Pat" and Gwendolyn Patterson on May 8, 1957 in Fort Rucker, Alabama. Cindy graduated from Slaton High School in 1975, and from Texas Tech University in 1982. Cindy married Steve Rieger on November 21, 2008 in Lubbock. They were married 12 years prior to Steve's death in 2011. Cindy is survived by her daughters, Alicia Broughton, and husband, Barry and Briana Massey, and husband Kade; her grandchildren Mason, Conner and Ella McDonald, Kaden and Ellie Massey, and Caleb Broughton. She was preceded in death by her brother, Don, on November 14, 1981. Cindy's biggest legacy will be her passion for teaching. She was an English teacher at Richard Milburn Academy for over 20 years. During that time, she made a huge impact in the lives of so many students. Her house is still filled with memories of all of those students. The impact they had on her is greater than they knew. She will best be remembered for her contagious smile and laugh. She loved fiercely and wildly, in her own unique way, and always put the needs of others before her own. Her love of reading and the arts was passed down to both of her daughters, each excelling in school, and graduating from LCU. Briana was inspired to follow in Cindy's footsteps, also becoming an English teacher. She enjoyed being a grandma, and was looking forward to the extra time retirement would give her with her grandchildren. She was eager to help foster the love of music and the arts that she passed down to them, and it added a new spark to her life. Memorial Service will be held at Sanders Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday November 24, 2020 at 10am. In leiu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to The South Plains SPCA.
