Derl Len Brooks Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

A celebration of the life of Dr. Derl Brooks, 90, of Lubbock, Texas will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 15, 2020 in City of Lubbock Cemetery with Deacon Brad Brooks officiating. Derl was born July 25, 1930 in Headrick , OK to Ernest and Coy Brooks. He was raised in Littlefield, Texas and graduated from Littlefield High School in 1948. He served in the the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. After his service he received his Bachelor’s Degree from Texas Tech University; Master’s Degree from Arkansas State University and his Phd. from Iowa State University. While attending Texas Tech he met JaNa’ Sparks and they were married on May 31, 1957. Dr. Brooks began his teaching career at West Texas State University in 1965 where he spent his career teaching in the Biology Department. After retiring in 1992, he was named Professor Emeritus at West Texas A & M. During his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family (especially his grandchildren) Also, hunting, fishing and being outdoors. Preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Don and Kent Brooks. Loved ones include his loving wife, JaNa' Brooks; son, Dr. Brad Brooks and wife, Conda; grandchildren, Tabor and Taryn Brooks; sister, Hilma Cummings.
