Donald Ray Key, 86, of Lubbock, Texas passed away January 24, 2022. Don was born September 26, 1935, in Trenton, TX to William Key and Dorcus Key. He came from a large family including three brothers and five sisters. Don was a hard worker his entire life, working diligently up until he was 85 years old. He was a professional upholsterer having started at a very young age. He could reupholster anything from antique cars and boats to any type of furniture. Don enjoyed homemade pecan pies that his daughter, Marcie, would make using fresh pecans from the trees at his home. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends playing his favorite game, 42. Don loved camping and the outdoors. He spent many years with his beloved family pulling a Mobile Scout, aptly named The Grapes of Wrath, to go camping all over the United States. He enjoyed all types of country music and western dancing. He spent many days watching football including his favorite team, The Dallas Cowboys. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his beloved wife and family. Surviving loved ones include his beloved wife of 38 years, Vickie of Lubbock, TX; brother Mickey Key and wife Wilma of Lubbock,TX; sister Mae Hargrove of Dimmitt, TX; son Warner Ray Key and fiancé Ida Strickland of Hobbs, NM; daughter Marcie Key of Lubbock, TX; daughter Suzanne Stephenson and husband Robert of Durango, CO; Son-in-Law Jimmy Davila of Lubbock, TX; grandson Cody Key and wife Jennifer of Portland, TX ; granddaughter Jamyae Ellis and husband Barron of Lubbock, TX; granddaughter Holli Davila of San Diego, CA; grandson Charlie Davila of Lubbock, TX; granddaughter Taylor Stewart and husband Hunter of Summit, MS; grandson Robert David Stephenson, Jr. of Stillwater, OK; grandson Kaleb Stephenson of Stillwater, OK and granddaughter Makenna Stephenson of Durango, CO, six great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and family friend Stacey McGuigan of Mansfield, TX. Preceded in death by Father William Claude Key Sr., mother Dorcus Faye Key; brothers Johnny and Claude Key, sisters Norma Lucille Key, Margaret Rogers, Della Martin, and Louise Goodson; sons Danny and Leslie Key, daughters Lisa Key and Derenda Davila; and son-in-law Bob Dobbins. Family visitation will be at Sanders Funeral Home Sunday, January 30, 2022, 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. A celebration of his life will be 2:00 PM Monday, January 31, 2022, in Sanders Memorial Chapel with Danny Henderson officiating. Graveside services will follow in City of Lubbock Cemetery.
