October 20, 1931 - September 2, 2021
Duane Dalton Locke, 89, of Lubbock, Texas was welcomed into the arms of his Lord and Savior on September 2, 2021. Duane was born on October 20, 1931 in Pettit, Texas to Frank and Selma Locke. He graduated from Pettit High School in 1949 and attended Wayland Baptist College for a year before enlisting in the U.S. Navy as a Radioman Seaman. He spent 4 years in service to our country before attending and graduating from Eastern New Mexico University. There he met the love of his life, Lena Mae House, who he married on June 21, 1957 in Portales, New Mexico. They welcomed their two children, Keith and Kim, in 1960 and 1962. Duane was a Director of Athletics for several high schools in the area, while coaching football, basketball, and track. After receiving his Master of Education Degree from Southwestern State College in 1969, he later enjoyed a career as a High School Principal and served in that capacity for 15 years. He found great joy in his coaching and teaching career that spanned over 35 years. In the words of one of his former athletes, "God bless our Coach. He helped us become the men we are today." Duane was a member of Bacon Heights Baptist Church in Lubbock for many years where he selflessly served with compassion and grace. Loved ones include wife, Lena Locke; son, Keith Locke; daughter, Kim Giles and husband, Lane Giles; and grandchildren, Leah, Peyton, and Alyssa Giles. Duane is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Selma Locke. It is impossible to summarize the life and legacy of Duane Locke in so few words - loving husband, father and grandfather, adventure-seeker, encourager and teacher. Kind, wise, jokester, and friend, he was a man who never met a stranger. We know that when he met Jesus at the gates of heaven, our Lord said, "Well done, my good and faithful servant." A time for visitation with the family is scheduled for Monday evening September 6th at Sanders Funeral Home from 4:00 to 6:00. A celebration of life will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday September 7th at Bacon Heights Baptist Church with Pastor Tom Heath and Pastor Nick Watts officiating. Please celebrate Duane's life by visiting www.sandersfuneralhome.com. Messages left on the website's online guestbook are encouraged. Acts of kindness expressed to Bacon Heights Baptist Church or The American Cancer Society are recommended. A private graveside service will be held in the near future at the City of Levelland Cemetery. His urn will be placed at the gravesite of his parents.
