Dr. Edward Bland Burke, Jr.

January 27, 1931 - February 13, 2022

Dr. Edward Bland Burke,Jr., 91, of Lubbock,Texas went home to Jesus on February 13, 2022. Dr. Burke was born January 27,1931 in Hobart,OK to Edward Burke,Sr. and Reba Howard Burke. He graduated from Hobbs High School, Oklahoma University and the University of Colorado Medical School. Edward was married to Mary Ellen Smith of Boulder, CO for 65 years. He was a pediatrician in his hometown of Hobbs, New Mexico for 37 years where he served on the school board, the CARE unit, as a county and state public health officer of New Mexico and deacon of his church. He is survived by his wife Mary of their home, his brother Bill of Kobe, Japan, his sister Linda Humble of Lubbock, his children, Rebecca and Claiborne Harrison of Lubbock, Charles and Carole Burke of Colorado Springs, CO, John and Dede Burke of Edmond, OK and Deborah Zachary of Lubbock, 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Dr. Burke had a great memory for poems and songs. He loved music and enjoyed playing in the band and singing in the choir. He loved yard work and was an inventor at heart. He collected clocks of all kinds. He was dearly loved by his family and community. His joyful presence surely will be missed. He lived his 91 years to the fullest and was a real blessing to so many. A Memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m., Monday, February 21,2022 at the First Baptist Church-Ford Memorial Chapel in Lubbock.
