Janet Maye Barker, age 70, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 24th in Lubbock Texas after a battle with multiple myeloma. Janet was born on June 14th, 1951 in Crane Texas to Monroe Carlyle Slaton and Maye (Harris) Slaton. Family left behind to cherish her memory are her daughter, Laurie Jones and husband, Kirk Pritchett; her daughter-in-law, Amy Barker and her children Andrew, Tyler, and Matthew; her grandchildren, Alyssa (Kris) Kern, Tyson (Emily) Jones, Trenton (Cheyenne) Jones, Tandon (Jasmine) Jones, and her great grandchildren, Lincoln, Jackson, and Stevi Kern; and Carter Jones. Also left to treasure her memory are her sisters; Billie Sue White of Tucson, Arizona; Beverley Day of McCamey, Texas, and her brother; John Slaton of Oak Park, Minnesota, her sister-in-law, Kathy Burge (Richard) of Levelland, and a host of nieces and nephews. Her numerous brothers and sisters from Park Drive Baptist church will also remember her with affection. Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Barker, her son, Steven Barker, and her parents Maye and Bob Baker and Monroe and Ada Slaton, and nephew, Carl Slaton. Janet was an avid reader and gardener. She was a dedicated genealogist who researched family heritage for many years. She was a very kind and giving person who was involved in several charities and was very compassionate about animals. She homed many stray animals over the years, and loved them all very much. Janet also loved to travel. She was involved in the Christmas Box Ministry for many years at church. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, December 4th, at 11 A.M. at Park Drive Baptist Church. Brother Gil Ramirez will be officiating the service. Interment will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery In Levelland, Texas. In lieu of Flowers, Janet's family asks that donations be made to the Multiple Myeloma Foundation, or Morris Safe House for Dogs at 3240 Nightingale Rd, Lubbock, TX, 79407.
