A celebration of the life of Martha Spears, 91, of Lubbock, Texas will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 14, 2022 in Sanders Memorial Chapel with Dr. D.L. Lowrie and Pastor Bobby Dagnel officiating. Graveside services will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park. Family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m., Thursday, January 13, 2022 in Sanders Funeral Home. Martha was born February 14, 1930 in San Antonio, Texas to George Pendleton Isbell and Martha Youngblood Isbell. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1947 and then graduated from Baylor University as an English major in 1951 . While at Baylor, Martha was in the Alpha Omega Sorority and she later was initiated into Pi Beta Phi Sorority. Martha married Harrell Spears on August 18, 1951 in San Antonio. Loved ones include son, David Spears and wife, Nancye Spears; son Jonathan Spears and wife, Stefani Spears; daughter Cathleen Spears; grandsons, Randall Spears and his wife, Taylor, Travis Spears and wife, Tory, Austin Kreis and Dylan Kreis. Martha was a member of PEO Chapter CF for 55 years, She was active in Junior League for many years and was a member of the Lubbock Women's Club. She loved to read and study the Bible, of which she had about a dozen, all filled with her notations and stuffed with her notes. Martha spent over 60 years teaching Sunday Schools at First Baptist Church where she was a member for over 70 years. She loved everyone, and everyone loved her, and she expressed it often through her generosity. Martha had so many friends in Lubbock it would be impossible to name them all. However, Lena Waters, Betty Bradford, and Jan Morris were especially close friends through the decades. Needlepoint, crochet, painting and calligraphy were among her many artistic talents. She served as a volunteer in many organizations around Lubbock, at First Baptist Church, and for her beloved Baylor University. She loved music of all kinds, and had a beautiful voice. She and Harrell spent several years square dancing. Following in the footsteps of her parents, she loved antiques and everything about Texas. Martha spent the last 2 years of her life at Carillon, where she was cared for by many loving caregivers from Home Instead, and especially by Mary Gonzalez. Martha Spears was clear-minded and not in pain when she joyously passed from this life to eternity in Heaven with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Harrell, on September 12, 2020.
