Ruth Laverne Parrish Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Ruth Laverne Cox Parrish, of Lubbock went to her heavenly home on Saturday, July 2 2022. She was born in Montague Country, Texas on August 9, 1937 to Elmer and Leola Cox. The family moved to New Deal (then known as Monroe) when she was a very young girl to farm cotton. Ruth was an all-state athlete in basketball, helping New Deal win the state championship in 1953. Soon after graduating from New Deal High School, Ruth married Percy Parrish on June 12,1955 and spent 64 years as his loving wife and faithful partner in ministry. Following their tours of duty in the Army, Percy and Ruth served Churches of Christ in Nevada, California, New Mexico and Texas. After retiring from the pulpit, together they served grieving families in Gainesville, Texas. She and her husband retired to Lubbock in 2012 where they continued to serve and minister to a multitude of friends and neighbors before Percy went to his heavenly home in 2019. Ruth is survived by her children, Curtis and Brenda Parrish of Lubbock, Missy and Nathan Stark of Troup, Kevin Parrish and Andrea Parrish of Abilene; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a host of family members and friends, including Stephanie Lara, who Ruth loved as one of her own children. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Percy Parrish; her parents, Elmer and Lola Cox; her brothers, Willie, David, and Jimmy Cox; a grandson and 2 great grand-children Services will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at 10:30 am in the Broadway Church of Christ Chapel. The family would like to thank the staff at The Plaza at Lubbock as well as Kindred Hospice for the loving care they gave to Ruth. Memorial may be made to the Children's Home of Lubbock.
