Vicki Karen Horton

February 2, 1954 - February 28, 2021

Vicki Karen Wossum Horton, lovingly called "Mom, Grandma, Nannie, and Silly Fillie", 67, of Lubbock, TX, put on her black leather jacket with silver fringe, hopped on her purple Harley and flew up to Heaven to reunite with her Creator on February 28, 2021. 1954 was a great year as it was the year Karen was born in Lubbock, TX to her devoted parents, Bob and Sue Wossum. Growing up, she was an avid reader and ideal student, often staying after to help her teachers. At 12 years old, she loved twirling as a junior majorette at Texas Tech. She enjoyed playing the cello in the Lubbock High Orchestra as first chair. In 1971, Karen married Ron Wolfe and although they would divorce later, together they had two beautiful daughters, Teresa and Katrina. She worked hard as a newlywed with a young baby and was proud to have graduated from Lubbock High School in 1972. She had tremendous pride in all of the places she worked to include Texas Instruments, self-employed drywaller, Nothin' Butt Smokes, driving a cab and even McDonalds. Karen would often reminisce of her times as an old-school waitress and how she could carry 31 glasses at one time without a tray. Her favorite job was babysitting. Caring for babies and little kids gave Karen great pleasure. She never met a stranger, always willing to reach out to brighten everyone's day. Because of her unique individualism, Karen will not be easily forgotten by all of those that love her. Karen was encircled by many loved ones upon her arrival at the Pearly Gates, those first to hug her were mom, Sue, dad, Bob, her brothers Gregory Jack and Larry, her sisters Cheryl and Patsy, daughter, Teresa, niece and nephew, Miranda and Morgan. Karen will be greatly missed by her husband, Harold Horton, Jr. of Austin, TX; daughter Katrina Stockley and husband Chris of Colorado Springs, CO; four grandsons, Blake Murdock of Greenville, TX, Jake Murdock and wife Rena, of Tokyo, Japan, Evan Murdock of Amarillo, TX, and Brenner Murdock of Panhandle, TX; her adorable great-granddaughter Emma of Tokyo, Japan; brother Lee Wossum and wife Dixie of Levalland, TX; brother Bobby Wossum of Lubbock, TX; sister Melissa Sharp of Lubbock, TX; sister Tina Bryant and husband Robin Brown of Lubbock, TX; brother Chris Wossum of Lubbock, TX, her best friend Shelly Baker of Lubbock, TX, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation and thanks to all of Karen's caregivers. Services to honor and remember Karen's life will be kicked off with a viewing on Sunday, March 7, 2021 at 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Sanders Funeral Home in Lubbock, TX. Funeral services will be held at the Sanders Memorial Chapel in Lubbock, TX on Monday, March 8, 2021. Graveside services will be held at City of Lubbock Cemetery following funeral services. In remembrance of Karen's life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).
