Weldon Burl Hubbard, Jr.

October 10, 1943 - January 31, 2022

Weldon Burl Hubbard, Jr. was born October 10, 1943, in Garden City, Kansas. He passed away on January 31, 2022, after a long battle with cancer. Burl attended Carrol Thompson Jr High School and Lubbock High School, graduating in 1961. He attended Texas Tech, and then worked for Deep Well Pump Co., Prior Products, Equifax, and Aetna Property and Casualty Co. In 1976 he moved to Abernathy and founded Hubbard Insurance Co, which he managed until 1997. He received awards from Aetna and Progressive insurance companies for recognition as among the top 50 insurance in Texas. He is a former member of the Abernathy City Council and former President of the Abernathy Lions Club. He is a member of Elks Lodge 1348 in Lubbock. He had many hobbies over the years, including golf, chess, flying radio control model planes, fishing, and shuffleboard. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Karon Carter. He is survived by his many friends and Lubbock High School classmates. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 8, from 10:00 until 12:00 at Sanders Funeral Home. Interment will be immediately after the visitation at the Abernathy Cemetery. Tributes to Burl may be left at the Sanders Funeral Home website.
