Annyce Rhodes

In the early hours of April 17, 2026, Annyce Rhodes, age 79, went from sleeping beside the man she loved for over 65 years to opening her eyes, taking the hand of Jesus and entering the gates of heaven. Annyce Irene Burnam was born on July 24, 1946 in Lubbock, Texas to Wade and Rubye (Arnold) Burnam, weighing a whopping 6lbs 1oz and 18 inches long. She may have been small but her voice was fierce! Annyce attended McWhorter Elementary and Matthews Junior High before graduating from Lubbock High School in 1964. Annyce met Robby Rhodes, the love of her life, when they were both children at Pioneer Park Church of Christ in Lubbock. The story goes that one Sunday, 12 year old Annyce and her friends seated themselves in a pew in front of Robby and his friends. Robby said he saw her and heard a voice say, "You're going to marry her someday!" They married on July 30th, 1965, at Pioneer Park and spent over 60 happy years together. In 1966, Annyce graduated from Lubbock Christian College with an Associates Degree in the Applied Arts. She went on to earn a B.S. in Accounting from Texas Tech University, graduating Summa Cum Laude in 1972. After spending time as a stay-at-home mom, Annyce earned her teaching certificate from LCC. She taught English and sponsored cheerleading at Lubbock Christian High School before becoming a librarian at Lubbock Christian University. She retired from LCU in 2011. Annyce loved singing and was gifted with a beautiful soprano voice. She sang in the LCC Meistersinger Chorus under the direction of Brother Charles Cox, in the Hallelujah Chorus under the direction of Dr. Wayne Hinds, and for a countless number of weddings and funerals. She also loved baking, decorating cakes, and sewing. Preceding her in death were her parents, Wade and Rubye Burnam; her in-laws, Hubert and Ima Dee Rhodes; and many other family members and friends. Those left to cherish her memory are her adoring husband of over 60 years, Robby; her favorite 4 legged child, Honey; daughter Mondie Williams (Kevin); sons Doug Rhodes (Becky) and Clint Rhodes (Stephanie); 7 grandchildren: Markayla Howell (Caleb), Marlyssa Boucher, Dawson Rhodes, Kellin Rhodes, Hannah Rhodes, Brennon Rhodes and Rylan Rhodes; great-grandchildren Jace, Erin, and Micah Howell; her brother, Marc Burnam; and many additional family members and countless friends. A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 23rd from 5:30 - 7pm at Sanders Funeral Home, 1420 Main Street. Funeral services will be on Friday, April 24th at 1pm at Green Lawn Church of Christ, 5701 19th St, with Clint Rhodes officiating. The service will be livestreamed on the Green Lawn YouTube channel. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Haven Animal Care Shelter or a charity of your choice.
