Barbara Ann Moore Rowlett

Barbara Ann Moore Rowlett Barbara Ann Moore was born on February 15, 1932 in Woodlawn, Texas to Jesse Lee Moore and Mary Catherine (Peden) Moore. She passed away on October 7, 2013 in Lubbock, Texas. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Jesse Lee Moore, Jr. She is survived by her devoted and beloved husband Lewis Leon “Lonnie” Rowlett of Lubbock; one brother M. Watson Moore and wife, Shirley of Roby; one son Dr. C. David Rowlett and wife, Sandy of Tyler; and three daughters, Kay Hatton and husband, Tom of Lubbock; Anne Ivey and husband, Mark of Lubbock; and Sherry Rooker and husband, Kevin of Dallas. Barbara was lovingly known as “Mimi” to 10 cherished grandchildren: Angela Hatton Stotts and husband Court; Shannon Hatton Elrod and husband Chad; Kimberly Rowlett Ewing and husband, Austin; Allen Ivey and wife, Ginger; Dr. Amanda Hatton (Hudgens) and husband, Andy; Jennifer Rowlett Lewis and husband, Casey; Alisa Ivey Braly and husband, Scottie; Brian Ivey and wife, Sara; and Laura Catherine Rooker and Thomas Connor Rooker. In addition, she was blessed in having 14 great-grandchildren: Avery and Caleb Newton and Alexis Stotts; Adisyn and Aubry Elrod; Carter, Taylor, and Charlie Ewing; Rogan, Athan, and Maevyn Ivey; Camden Lewis; and Jaylee and Braylon Braly. Barbara graduated from Newman High School in Sweetwater, Texas in 1948; and attended Texas Technological College. She married her beloved Lonnie Rowlett on December 9, 1950 in Sweetwater. Together they built a brick contracting and construction business that began in Midland, Texas and continued with their move to Lubbock. She worked for Aetna Insurance Agency in Lubbock before studying real estate to become a Licensed Realtor. Barbara was an accomplished pianist and enjoyed singing in her church choir for many years. She was an excellent cook, a master seamstress, enjoyed crocheting and painting; and was an avid reader and expert at crossword puzzles. She especially liked gardening, sitting on her back porch watching the birds and turtles with Lonnie, and reminiscing about life and family. She loved to travel with family, and especially enjoyed spending time at the lake and in the mountains. Her greatest joy was her family and she was always willing to listen, encourage, and counsel when needed. She absolutely adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and spent countless hours over the years playing with them whenever the opportunity presented. Barbara was passionate about her Christian faith, and was always willing to share her faith with family, friends, caregivers, and even strangers. She enjoyed a good discussion and debate regarding Biblical issues, and taught Sunday School classes for many years. She was never afraid to tell others that she would leave this world to spend eternal life with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Barbara’s family would like to thank the many providers that took such special care of her over the past few months at Crown Point, The Garrison Center, and recently at Odyssey Hospice at Carrillon. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to The Salvation Army or the Christian ministry of your choice.
