Cynthia Phillips Finley

Cynthia (Cindy) Phillips Finley, beloved wife, mother, and granny, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2025, at the age of 74. Born on March 26, 1950, in Littlefield, Texas, her family moved to a farm outside of Muleshoe when she was two years old. She lived there until she graduated high school, then started her freshman year at Texas Tech. She graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Home Economics and, later,a Master's Degree in Counseling. She spent the majority of her adult life in Lubbock, Texas, where she built a life devoted to her family and her passion for helping others. Cindy married her husband, Neil, on May 23, 1971, and they were married almost fifty-four years, a union filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support. Together, they created a warm and welcoming home for their daughter, Heather. Cindy loved to read, and enjoyed cooking and trying new recipes. Cindy was very active in The American Council of the Blind of Texas for many years. She also was known for her great knowledge of resources for blind and visually impaired people. A member of Southcrest Baptist Church, Cindy found great joy in her faith and community. Her guide dogs, who provided companionship and guidance, held a special place in her heart, symbolizing her resilience and independence. Cindy's kindness and compassion touched the lives of many, and her love for family and friends will be profoundly missed. She is survived by her husband, Neil, her daughter, Heather Abel, and son-in-law, Tim Abel of Hale Center, and her wonderful grandson, Joseph William (Will) Abel of Hale Center. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leldon and Alma Phillips and her brother, Mac Phillips. Services will be held on Monday, February 3, 2025 at Southcrest Baptist Church. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 10:00 AM. A graveside service will be held at Muleshoe Memorial Park Cemetery at 3:00 PM. The family invites all who knew and loved Cindy to join them in celebrating her remarkable life. Services will be livestreamed at southcrestlive.tv. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Guiding Eyes for the Blind, Yorktown Heights, New York, or a charity of your choice.
