Dr. Dilford Carter

Dr. Dilford Carter, a beloved educator, devoted husband, and cherished father, passed away peacefully at his home in Ransom Canyon, Texas, on April 9, 2026, at the age of 96. Born on March 7, 1930, in Abilene, Texas, Dilford lived a life rich in service, dedication, and love. A proud Texan, Dilford graduated from high school in Corpus Christi before pursuing higher education at Southern Methodist University and Texas A&M University, ultimately earning a Master's Degree. He began his teaching career at Texas A&M, where his passion for education inspired countless students. Dilford later took on the role of Associate Dean at Texas Tech University, where he continued to influence the academic community until his retirement. During the Korean Conflict, Dilford proudly served in the U.S. Military, demonstrating his commitment to his country. Following his military service, he embarked on a new journey when he married the love of his life, Sigrid Fischer, on June 17, 1967, in Los Angeles, California. Together, they built a life marked by adventure and exploration, eventually operating Envoye Travel Agency side by side, where their shared passion for travel allowed them to explore the world together. Dilford is survived by his beloved wife, Sigrid; his daughter, Kathleen Carter; and his sons, Campbell and Scott Carter, and several granchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Noah and Lucy Carter, two brothers, and two sisters, who await his reunion in eternity. A visitation will be held at Sanders Funeral Home , Wednesday, April 15, 2026 from 5-6 pm and the Holy Rosary will be recited at 6 pm in Sanders Memorial Chapel. A Mass in his honor will take place at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at 10:00 AM. Burial will be conducted at the West Texas Veterans Cemetery in Lubbock at a later date In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Lubbock or St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Slaton, honoring Dilford's unwavering faith and community spirit. Dr. Dilford Carter leaves behind a legacy of kindness, wisdom, and a deep appreciation for life that will resonate within the hearts of all who knew him. He will be profoundly missed but forever remembered.
