Edith L Cotton

Edith Cotton, 86, of Lubbock, Texas, passed away on July 15, 2023. Edith was born September 18, 1936, in Quanah, Texas to Thomas and Isa Hawkins. She graduated from South Oak Cliff High School in 1955. Shortly after she moved to Abilene, TX where she met the love of her life, Duane, at Fairmont Methodist Church. She then married Duane Cotton on February 4, 1956 in Abilene, Texas; Duane and Edith lived in Abilene, Midland and Lubbock Texas over their 66 years of marriage. They moved to Lubbock in 1967 where they spent most of their years together as a loving couple. She began working as a teenager to help her mother raise two wonderful Nephews. Her first job was at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as a Switchboard Operator. After moving to Lubbock, she worked at Sears, first in the toy department and finally as the Switchboard operator. She then worked in banking as a Switchboard Operator and a teller. She retired from Wells Fargo Bank in 2002, at which time she began working alongside Duane with BDC Signs. She was a longtime member of Oakwood Wesleyan Fellowship where she could be found singing in the choir, filling the Blessing Box, working estate sales and volunteering in the baby room of the preschool. Edith was preceded in death by her husband Duane, her parents, Thomas King Hawkins and Isa Ella Hawkins, sister Betty Maternowski, and nephews, Mike Price and Mickey Price. Edith is survived in death by her three children Belinda (Joe Aguilar) of Corpus Christi, Texas; Gary (Russ) of San Angelo, Texas; Tim and wife Janet of Lubbock, Texas; Brother-in-Law Bruce Cotton and wife Linda of Lubbock, Texas. She is known as "MamMa" to seven grandchildren; Jonathan, Jaree', Will, Jancee' and husband Keenan Harris, Jeter and wife Amie, Journee', Jubilee' and husband Bryce Worley; six great grandchildren; Bruce, Henry, Jack, Sam, Addie and Lucy. In addition, she is survived by nephews Chris Cotton and wife April, Craig Cotton and wife Amanda and Cory Cotton (Amanda) and niece Charity and husband Justin Price. Edith's family will receive friends from 5:00-6:30 p.m., Monday, July 17, 2023 at Sanders Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at Oakwood Wesleyan Fellowship with Wendell Horn officiating. A commitment service will follow at the City of Lubbock Cemetery.
