Eileen Nixon

Eileen Handley Nixon was born August 8, 1937 in Floydada, TX to Solomon Jabez Handley and Lillie Mae Red Handley. She graduated from Floydada High School. Eileen married the love of her life Fred Allen Nixon on 1-24-54 and was his Sweetheart for 65 years. She was a sweet, loving and generous wife, mother and grandmother. PBX operator with Southwestern Bell with her sister LaVern Executive Assistant for the President at First National Bank in Amarillo Lubbock State School PBX Operator She was a fastidious Landlord and provided excellent service and immaculate properties. She served her church as Treasurer Assistant and Kitchen Coordinator for 25 years She was: Fabulous artist and did paintings and murals in oil, and acrylics (Her nephew David Handley still remembers helping her get all her paintings from school. He couldn’t believe how many there were). She had so much talent and creativity. She painted the baptisteries in Floydada and Lubbock Church on Ave P She was a talented cook and seamstress – she did the finest stitches and doll work for her children. She created matching clothes for her daughters and their dolls. She was a wonderful storyteller and historian sharing family history. Every year she created calendars with all of her family and friends birthdays and anniversaries and she never forget to wish happy birthday and send cards. She was fastidious and meticulous at anything she did keeping books, property management whether it was bookwork, artwork, crafts, cooking, bowling Everything she did was done to perfection. She enjoyed collecting plates, clowns and antiques. She loved to work in the yard, watch the birds and squirrels. She has such a calm presence that she fed the deer from her hand. She loved the lake house sitting on the balcony with her beautiful view of the lake. She loved entertaining her family –Nixon and Handley - at home and the Lakehouse. The yearly Handley Christmas’ were always a great joy where everyone took turns hosting. Everyone enjoyed playing, eating and sharing presents. Of course, Neen might take til New Year’s to finish opening her gifts. She savored her presents almost as much as chocolate. She loved her church, her church family and her family. She came from a long line of Deacons and she and her family were very active in church activities. She was a devoted wife and mother putting her heart into them all. Preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Linda Gay Nixon who passed away November 6, 1991. Also preceded in death by siblings, Monroe Leon Handley, Amarillo, TX, Lena Laverne Handley Lunn, Albuquerque, NM, Raymond Randall Handley, Lubbock, TX and Benny Dale Handley, Lubbock, TX Loved ones include her husband, Fred Allen Nixon, Lubbock, TX; her daughter, Sandra Fay Nixon, Cedar Hill, TX; grandchildren, Taylor Nixon Treece, Lubbock, TX, Garreth Allen Rogers, Cedar Hill, TX; brother, Carrell Wesley Handley, Amarillo, TX
