Jack McQueen

Jack Warren McQueen was born to George Warren and Mattie Mae (Daughertry) McQueen on November 30, 1926 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He lived there until moving to Lubbock in 1942 where he graduated from Lubbock High School in 1944. He then joined the U.S. Navy during World War II. After his service in the Navy, he decided to return to Lubbock and used one of his military learned skills as a projectionist in the growing movie theater business. He married Joyce Ann Smith on December 29, 1948 in Lubbock. In 1958, he went into the real estate business. With good people skills and a hard work ethic he was instantly successful. In 1963, he started Jack McQueen Realtors which later became McQueen Company Realtors. He was elected President of the Lubbock Board of Realtors in 1972 and was named Realtor of the Year in 1973. In 2005, he was awarded the Distinguished Service Award. He was a charter member of Southcrest Baptist Church, member of the Downtown Rotary Club and in the Downtown Study Group of the First Baptist Church. He had a natural ability working with engines and in 1963 bought a Chevrolet 409 power glide. He went on to hold a national record and won its class at the American Hot Rod Association Nationals and Winter Nationals at Phoenix, Arizona. He loved Lubbock, the real estate business, Texas Tech, his friends and all his family. They in turn all loved him and referred to him as Grand Daddy. He is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years, Joyce Ann McQueen; son, Bobby (Kathy) McQueen; daughters, Lana (Jim) Henley and Gwen (Dwight) Sanders; six grandchildren, Lauren (Todd) Fincher, Heather (Chad) Henthorn, Mindy (Nathan) Jordan, Jana (Charles) Torres, Brandon Henley and Blake Henley; nine great-grandchildren, Tanner Fincher, Halle Henthorn, Jace Jordan, Jantzen Torres, Tess Henthorn, Kaylee Jordan, Liam Torres, Cooper Fincher and Levi Fincher; nephew, Roger Case of Monterey, California. He was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Bailey Fincher. Jack passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2017. Services will be held on Saturday, September 9, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Bobby Dagnel officiating. A committal service will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. A visitation will on Friday, September 8, from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at Sanders Funeral Home.
