In Loving Memory of Linda Rae Barton Wyatt ("Mimi") October 17, 1944 – June 7, 2026 It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Linda Rae Barton Wyatt, lovingly known as "Mimi," who left this world on June 7, 2026, at the age of 81. Born on October 17, 1944, in Lubbock, Texas, Linda lived a life defined by service, compassion, leadership, and generosity. She touched countless lives through her professional accomplishments, volunteer work, and unwavering commitment to helping others. Linda graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1963 and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from New Mexico State University in 1969. A true pioneer in her field, she became the first female civil engineer employed by the Texas State Health Department. During her distinguished career, she served as Regional Engineer for the Texas Department of Health and provided leadership in numerous public health and infrastructure initiatives, including heading the Texas Water Works Committee. Through her expertise, dedication, and perseverance, she helped pave the way for future generations of women in engineering and public service. Following her retirement from the Texas Department of Health, Linda continued her lifelong commitment to serving others by working as a Mediator for Lubbock County, helping individuals resolve conflicts with fairness, patience, and compassion. Linda's entrepreneurial spirit also found expression through her soap-making business, I Made It Myself. She enjoyed creating handcrafted products, designing jewelry, and exploring her creativity through various artistic pursuits. She had a deep appreciation for the arts and found joy in beauty, creativity, and self-expression. Her greatest passion, however, was helping those in need. Retirement was simply another chapter of service. Linda devoted countless hours volunteering with Meals on Wheels, The Salvation Army, animal shelters, and rescue organizations. Whether delivering meals to homebound neighbors, caring for abandoned animals, or supporting members of her community, she consistently put the needs of others before her own. Linda had a special love for animals and cherished the companionship of horses, dogs, and cats throughout her life. She also loved camping, spending time outdoors, and enjoying the beauty of nature. To know Linda was to experience warmth, kindness, and sunshine. Her smile brightened every room she entered, and her optimistic spirit uplifted those around her. She approached life with grace, empathy, and an unwavering belief in the goodness of people. Linda is survived by her brother, Iley Barton and his wife Carol; her step-son, Mika Wyatt, and his wife, Robin; her grandson, Zakary Wyatt, and his wife, Kaitlyn, and her great grandchildren Arlen and Aubrey; her grandson, Zane Wyatt, and his partner, Teofilo Flores; as well as many extended family members “Sister Cousins” and other relatives, friends, colleagues, neighbors, and the countless people whose lives she touched through her work and service. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arlen Wyatt; her father, Iley Barton; and her mother, Daisy Barton. A memorial service celebrating Linda's life will be held at Sanders Memorial Chapel on June 13, 2026, at 3:30 p.m. The family invites you to wear bright colors in honor of Linda's life. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels, The Salvation Army, or local animal rescue organizations, causes that were especially dear to Linda's heart. Linda leaves behind a legacy of service, leadership, compassion, and love. Her life reminds us that true greatness is measured not by what we achieve for ourselves, but by how we care for others. Though she will be deeply missed, her light continues to shine through the kindness she inspired, the lives she improved, and the love she shared so freely. Her legacy will live on in every act of service, every helping hand, and every moment of compassion given in her honor.
