Lulu Garry

Celebration Services for the life of Wanda Lou Alexander Garry will be at 1:00 P. M. Wednesday, December 7th at First Christian Church, Lubbock, Texas. Dr. Michael Passmore will officiate the services under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home and burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. LuLu left this world at 5:30 AM, Saturday December 3rd. Those left to honor her life and cherish her memory are sons, Jerry Garry and wife Sharon, Fred Garry and wife Tammy, Mike Garry, Steve Garry and wife Kelly and Becky Garry Yates and husband Bobby Yates. Preceding her in death was her dear friend and mother in law, Emma Garry Jacobs, her beloved husband of 55 years, J. G. Garry Sr., her best friend, Howard Thompson and her beloved son Patrick Garry and loving daughter in law Roxanne Garry. Among those left to carry on her legacy of love and compassion are grand children, Renea McWhorter, Genea Garry, Jay and Dawn Garry, Michelle Garry, Heather Laffoon, Stephanie and Justin Hudson, Adam and Ashley Parks, Brad and Lori Crawford, Neely and Brandon Rawe, Joey and Amber Yates, Lindsey Yates, Monica and Nate Benco, Jake Garry and Michael and Mary Garry. Also among those to mourn her loss are her niece Emma Dell Neiley from Towanda, PA., and a host of nieces, nephews and countless friends who called her their own. Until her passing, living to witness five generations of her family were considered her biggest accomplishment and proudest achievement. She and J. G started a family that including six children, 14 grand children, 18 great grand children and 3 great great grandchildren. LuLu was born in Dallas, Texas on August 22nd, 1926 and placed in the Edna Gladney home for adoption. Although she did not know her parents the Lord instilled in her a deep devotion to family and an instinct for mothering and the gift of living each day with open arms, a loving heart and a laughing spirit. She met J. G. while attending Lake View High School in San Angelo, Texas. They married August 16, 1941 and lived most of their lives in Lubbock, raising six children and opening their home to many more. After 20 years of service, LuLu retired from Montgomery Ward in 1980 and began a new career as a professional Grandmother. It was a career that she excelled in, winning numerous awards for best brownies, best hugs, best listener, best encourager, best teacher and best shoulder to cry on. She loved with a love that knew no boundaries and gave with a heart that knew no limits. In 1999 she received a Volunteer of the Year award from the city of Lubbock for her tireless hours of rocking babies and playing with children at the Women’s Protective Center. LuLu was a member of First Christian Church where she was involved in the Christian Women’s Fellowship and a member of the Mary Martha Bible Study for over thirty years. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 6th at Sanders Funeral Home between 6:30 and 7:30 PM. Pall bearers will be grandsons, Jay Garry, Joey Yates, Jake Garry, Johnnathan Garry, Michael Garry, Gunner Garry, Adam Parks, Brandon Rawe and Roy Stout Jr. and Robbie Stout. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to The J. G. Garry Baseball Scholarship Fund (in care of 8102 CR 6910, Lubbock, Texas 79407) which provides underprivileged children with scholarships to play Little League baseball or to a favorite charity.
